my neighbor had me charge his battery from a 1970 coupe. finding bolts to fit the side post terminals I charge it and give it back the following day. he reverses the cables. smoke from under dash, not much. now nothing works. fuse link? any suggestions?. this is a standard four speed, 300 hp with air. could be a nice car aside from a few issues that are all age related.

Yes to all. Anything is possible. I am sure there are some melted wires. Check the fusible link, but don't do anything until you are sure nothing is melted under the dash. Proceed with caution.

Welcome to CAC!!!

as the previous post suggests...check the fusable link and make sure nothing melted....
check the fuses in the fuse box as well...

Welcome to the CAC.

As Frank nesta said, Check and replace the fusible links if needed.
As for what Bill81vette said, i would probably pull all the fuses (and check them) before putting power onto them again, and then replace them 1 by 1 just to be safe. (+ if there is a fault on one of the circuits you should know which on straight away)

I believe there is only a couple of things on a '70 that could be damaged by the reverse polarity.
