Preferred Premium Gas & Synthetic Oil

I'm new to the C5 forums as I just brought mine home today. Two important questions that I'd like some input on. The LS1 calls for premium fuel...down in La we don't have Sunoco so between the other brands ie Conoco, Shell, Chevron, Exxon, Phillips 66, Citgo or Texaco, what is the preferred brand from other C5 owners. While we're at the oil put in at the factory is Mobil 1. Do all C5 owners stick with this brand or has anyone had any sucess with other comparable brands such as Pennsoil, Valvoline, etc? I want to do the best for my new 97 with 74000 miles. Thanks for any advice on these two important issues. Rufus

I use Mobil1 and mostly Chevron. Chevron contains techron, which c4c5specialist recommends. I will sometimes use some other top tier gas such as Shell or 76.

As long as the synthetic you use meets the GM4718M standard you will be OK. Mobil 1, Castrol Syntec, and the Pennzoil full sythetic all meet it that I know of.

Thanks Drth for the speedy response...that's what I need to know...later

Thanks you too, Yellow 2002 out of Germany. I don't have anything against Mobil 1 just wanted to know about some options if they are available.

Rufus1050 check out the brands at http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers.html and see which ones you have in LA.

You're lucky with your fuel choices!

If you check the "TOP TIER" website you'll see that about every fuel you mentioned is a top tier fuel with Techron or a similar additive that meets the standard. In the greater Boston area, we can only get Shell, while there used to be Texaco, Chevron, and American. Shell up here is generally not cheap, while I would think with all those choices, you'd never need to buy a jug of Techron, and you could shop for the best deal/convenience with less hassle.

As far as oil goes, my best mileage has been with Castrol Syntec, 5w30, in the winter, 10w30 in the summer. It says on the oil filler cap of my wife's BMW that they recommend Castrol, and the BMW high performance oil is made in the same city as Castrol Syntec. The most convincing thing is better mileage with the Syntec vs. Mobil 1 with me, and that's the same car, same roads, same driver, etc. 1-2 mpg difference!

Enjoy that Vette, but watch out for the POLICE, they love to bag Corvettes because we are a BIG trophy for them! I notice I get zapped with the radar from "sniper" positions even when I'm going 30, just because they're hoping to get ya.
Also, I got bagged on the way home from the dealership- not a good start with my Corvette experience!

I am surprised BP isn't on that list...
