Hi everyone!!. Just had a question. I have a chance to buy a 1989 vette. Has new exhaust, and 60k miles on it. What is an average price that i should pay for that vette??

Look at Edmunds.com, Nada.com and defintely go on ebay.

It really depends a lot on the condition of everything, and I do mean everything:

engine-how well taken care of?

tranny-auto or 6 speed? There are more auto's than 6 speeds out there so 6 speeds may get a premium.

brakes-are they worn? How are the rotors?

paint-paint jobs are probably $2500 for a decent one.

weather stripping-$800 for a GM kit.

interior-leather is expensive, ~$600 for leather seat covers.

tires (how much tread is left?)-tires are expensive and then you have to get them mounted.

everything under the hood-all those components like the alternator, battery, starter, belts, radiator, power steering, master cylinder, brake booster, distributor, etc...

headlights-do they work? Took me 4 hours to change the bushings on one headlight!

All those factors (and I'm sure I've missed some) add to what price area that car would be in.

How has the car been taken care of?

Coupe or convertible? Convertibles hold a premium over coupes.

All that being said, a new exhaust isn't very difficult nor expensive to do so check everything out. Then bring it to a mechanic and have them check it out.

It really depends on the condition, if it's in great shape and doesn't need any repairs on anything I would think around $10,000.

what tyrel said. most 50k and up C4's are going around 10-12k on average. again like others have said, what accessories the car has can push the pricing up alittle. i would say no more than 12k at most if a private seller.

good luck and i hope you get it! these cars are alot of fun :D and don't forget to share some pics!

I bought my 90 convert 6 speed with 69k on it in june for $10,000. Granted it isn't perfect. mechanicly sound other than needing plugs and wires. It did need new brake pads.Hoses and belts look new, battery was new.Tires are good for at least 15k yet . Clutch and top was new in the last three yrs and seem to be good. It has been repainted, but not a supperb job of prep. Looks good from 10 ft away . very presentable. interior shows some typical wear. exhaust looks to be good for a few yrs. All in all solid car. I live in northwest Iowa where corvettes have a very good resale .

I would say if it is an average shape driver Vette it is worth somewhere around 8k. just my .02

:beer

I am in a rural location so I did most of my car search through the internet and I found out that location really makes a difference to the price (and value I guess) of a car.

depends on what your looking at but, as a indicator, you might go to autotraderdotcom and compare with the selling price of others in your area .... just make sure your comparing apples to apples though.

Although you certainly want to pay a "fair" price, I'm gonna bet most owners feel comfortable with their purchase price after they "get to know" their car! ... I paid premium for mine, but I was after a premium car ... one that fit my needs (well, actually "wants"!!).

I wasn't after a show car , wanted a driver which I knew wouldn't stay perfect anyhow. I believe if I would have wanted a show type car I would also have had to pay 3 to 4 k more.

Too Tough To Call!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Without seeing and driving it all we are doing is playing mental masterbation.

The 89 right now is not a year in vogue and based on everything that Edmond questioned must be answered.

For $12,000 l would rather have at least a 91 to 93 in great condition. You could even pick up a 94 if you look hard enough.

Take your time and you will be rewarded.

Alan

p.s. the smartest thing that you did was ask here on the forum and don't forget to get a Car-fax. Without a Car-fax you are playing Russian Roulette.

Did l tell her Edmond! Only kidding

Good Luck

Tell everyone, Alan! :L

If you hold out until the winter months, the prices could go down a little bit more. Winters are usually slow times for Vette's being moved so take that into consideration. The closer you get to that mid teen area, the longer you should hold out for an LT4. :D
