I am going to start my performance upgrades with a set of long tube headers first. I have about a dozen questions I hope someone or lots of someones can help me answer.

1) Does any brand fit better than another? Hooker, TPIS, Hedman, etc?

2) Who has long tubes on there L98 conertible? Any tips on installing them?

3) Any problems passing emisions with the pre cats removed? I believe the pre cats gotta go with long tube headers. Is that correct?

4) How hard is the install? I am a decent wrench. Lots of tools. Big garage. This body just dont move like it used to.

HI Paul,

I don't have headers on my Vette' but my neighbor does on all his sports cars. He swears by Hooker. He says they're easy to install, no adjustments needed to be made.

The vehicle will pass emissions without the pup cats assuming that everything else emission related is working properly, ie., proper tuneup, main cat working, EGR, etc...

I know that feeling well! :L

I run TPiS headers and the fit is easy, although a little close on the passenger side - I had to modify the bracket (I have a Z-51 so it's got the same brackets up front that the convertible uses) slightly by grinding. But then, mine is a coupe, I don't know how well they fit with the convertible's x-member.

Ken,

I do believe the Hooker headers are a little easier on the wallet than the TPIS headers right?

I'm not Ken but I'll throw out an answer:

yes, Hooker's are a little easier on the wallet but I went with Headman's since they were the easiest! (aprox $150 US)

It looks like you'll have to modify the Alternator bracket and the bracket to the AC but you are saving $450 over TPIS which paid for my dual exhaust. :D
