OK still working on the steering column. Unfortunately, I didn't make notes on exactly how it was put together, and the manual isn't much help. I have my steering wheel back on and I am trying to figure out how to put the horn and telescoping lever back on. It seems the telescoping part that you turn hits the paint on the column if I make it too tight, but if I leave a little loose I can't stop the telescoping. If I can't figure it out tonite, then I may take the horn off my brothers 77 and see if I can get any ideas from looking at his. I can't remember exactly where the plastic washers were, maybe I have one in the wrong place. I will have to take it back off to paint it because I chipped it up trying to put it on. All of this for a broken turn signal, but I am on the home run stretch now (I think).

Sorry I can't help with your problem, but I will be doing the same job within the month on my 79. Can you tell me where you got the turn signal and if you got a good price, and were all the parts required included in the shipment??

Cheers,
Johnny

The only parts broken on mine were the turn signal lever and a plastic peice that covers the lock plate. These parts were about $30. I ordered on corvette central, all of the parts seemed pretty reasonable. The only advice I can give if I had to do it over is when taking it apart, set all of your parts on a long bench IN THE ORDER YOU TAKE THEM OFF. You won't remember how you took it off as much as you think you will. It ends up being like a puzzle. I had to use two tools I got from Autozone. A puller for the steering wheel, and a lock plate remover. I have mine pretty much together except the telescoping lever and the horn. The only thing I am unsure about is if the horn will work. It didn't work very well before. I greased everything when putting back and the lever goes up and down a little easier. Good luck and don't be like me, take your time. If you need any advice this is the place to get it.

Finally done! I drove it and everything is fine. Had to really take my time putting wheel back on because I wanted the steering wheel just right when wheels are straight. Now for the next project...a new paint job.

good job. I'll be ripping mine apart soon, too. The telescopic feature doesn't work at all. I don't really know why.
