R.I.P Vettie

This is the only picture that matters. :thumb

I commend you on all your efforts with the car. Being an engineer that is currently working on a combination with my car, I know how much time it takes. Some folks don't have a clue. ;squint:

I wish you the best moving forward. :beer

When you say the runner divider removed on the latest version of your crossfire, do you mean at the head end of the intake or the runner inlet end? Did your intake melt or is it still intacted? Could you post some pictures of your intake modifications.

My previous post was to get your mind off of your car and look forward to a new car, sorry if it sounded crappy. Seriously that was a scary incident.

You mentioned a pop sound from your engine. When I was changing my stock intake over to a renegade. I was so excited to fire it up I forgot to put the EGr on and it made a terrible pop and shot air and smoke straight up, maybe your egr blocker plate came loose. Just a thought.

Seriously I didn't mean to make light of your situation. I would have been so upset I would have hit ebay right away and replace mine if it burnt up. Hell today my vaccum crapped out and I ordered a new one online right away. I can't stand broken or missing things.

Good luck in the future and hope you get a vette again, we need your engineer advice. Don't forget if you have some old pictures or can unbolt your intake and take pictures lets see your handy work. I love reading about modified crossfire intakes.

I hope this reply doesn't piss everybody off. If so please point out what I screwed up on.

Geekinavette, you sound like a really classy guy, best of luck to you. Hopefully, someday you will have another. You always got the memories. That is one shiny 84, very nice.

The intake I was running was not modified, only the EGR finger inside the plenum was removed.

I cut the runner dividers away from the intake gasket itself.

Thanks again everyone. I have a deal working to sell the car...not even going to post what I'm getting for it, its so sickening, I just don't want to have to look at the thing every day. Just as soon as I find the damn title it'll be gone.

Would you consider getting another crossfire? I have seen a few on ebay going for a good price. One good thing about a crossfire, you don't have to buy a lot of parts for it to modify it. I have a stinkin TPI and to mod the intake you have to buy:
intake
runners
port the plenum
buy a new TB

crossfire:

port it(free)
or buy a renegade

crossfire is alot cheaper to mod.

I bet you will be back in a corvette by next summer at the latest. You will probably pick one up cheap in February.

Things are bound to turn around, Bill. I hope it's sooner than later. :)

Bill- I realize I'm a little late getting to this thread- but wow- what a horrible thing to have happened.

I'm glad you are okay, the house is okay, and everything else is okay. Terrible about the car though.

:cry

When things get better- and they will- go out and get whatever makes you happy. Life's too short to not live out your dreams.

I hope so too, Mac!

I will get something eventually...something that I'm not working on daily! (or maybe I just can't help myself)

It's always darkest before the dawn, Bill. If you're anything like me, tinkering is half the fun. Mind you, I prefer to tinker for improvement rather than having to fix or repair daily...

-Mac

Yeah the tinkering is fun...just to see what works and what doesn't.

I sold the car today (don't even ask for how much), it should be out of here tomorrow.

Gonna go buy me a motorcycle.

I hope you're not planning on dropping the CAC for some sleazy Harley forum, Bill... :ugh

As the proud owner of a 2006 FLHP, I should resemble the remark too but since I made it... :ugh

I can assure you that Bill will not leave the site and that Patrick will keep picking on him. By the way Bill, Wings this weekend? Sunday? Should we ask Patrick to drive his "Vette" down????
And, when you get the bike, don't try to change the shift points with your laptop while you're driving.

Well Vettie is officially gone, but boy did she leave her "mark" in the driveway! What a freakin mess.

Mac...heck no y'all ain't gettin rid of me THAT easy! :chuckle

No I'm not really a Harley fan. Going to look at a Honda Nighthawk here in a bit.

Scott...yeah man wingin' it Sunday sounds good. That'll give me a chance to return a bunch of radios. Just let me know what time.

Oh and how many times I gotta tell ya...'84 shift points are not electrically programmable! I was tweaking highway mode fuel/timing! :bang ;)

"Vettie" is the nickname my son gave the car long ago.

I went out to the garage, got in the car, started it up...all was running perfectly fine. Then out of nowhere *POOF* loud backfire under the hood. I saw the flash of flame when the backfire happened, and immediately pushed the car out of the garage. As soon as I got it into the driveway I saw that there was a large piece of cardboard still in the garage that was on fire, so grabbed the parking brake, threw it in park and ran into the garage and kicked the burning piece of cardboard out of the garage (which is why the car isn't farther away from the house...I had to go get that burning cardboard out of the garage). By the time Zach was able to run around the back of the house and turn the water hose on, and neighbors started running over with fire extinguishers...it was too late. One of the neighbors had called 911 even as I was pushing it out...meanwhile waiting for the trucks to arrive all I could do was sit and watch it burn.

Thankfully nobody was injured, there was no damage to the house (it'll stink for a few days), and the dogs and birds are fine. But damn, can this summer really get any worse. (laid off back in April)

I am a "Honda" guy. Currently there is a ST1100 & ST1300 in the barn. The 1100 has over 90,000 miles. Only scheduled maintenance and it looks and rides as good as it did in 2002 when it rolled out of Honda's front door.

Had a R1 & a 'Busa, love the Busa for a short blast but for putting miles behind you nothing beats the 1100.

As it has been several years (ok like 15 :L ) since I have been on a bike...I'm targeting the 550-750 range. I'm working on a 1982 Honda Nighthawk 650 right now.

Of course it'll need some work... :chuckle

I want to know where you're going to plug your laptop into the Honda, Don't remember any serial or usb ports on Nighthawks. And, are you going to make a laptop mount for the handlebars?

Call me tonight so we can figure out a wing time for Sunday. Any of you Colorado folks that want good wings, join us. Second best wings in the nation (yes, the Anchor Bar in Buffalo is #1). PM Bill or me and we'll give you directions.

Scott
