Radar detector -My Vette's new best friend

I've been researching detectors for the last week and found nothing here on the forums, so thought I would make a post for anyone else doing some research or interested. My Vette's new best friend is the Escort Passport 9500ix radar detector. It is one of the most accurate and powerful detectors I've ever owned. It has GPS, red light, ticket camera etc etc. For those that are shopping or needing to upgrade check it out:

I think the Valentine1 is the best out there,it tells you they r ,front back beside,and i think up to 6 signals at once.and also upgradeable,laser,Ka,K,and X bandsthe distance it picks up radar is unbelievable

Radar Detector or Ticket Detector!

I bought a new radar detector a couple of years ago. Many say that they are merely ticket detectors and that was my experience. When it went of on lasar and scared the crap out of me it wasn't saying "SLOW DOWN!" it was saying "YOU"RE BUSTED!". Even with a detector you still have to use your head.

yeah but I've found that the Valentine1 is just amazing when it comes to detecting any signal,mine goes off at least 30 seconds BEFORE you even see him.Thats why i like that it tells you where its coming from behind or in front or even to the side of you.

I always bought Escort products but then I bought the Valentine! Now every car has one with a remote display. The remote display is handy since you can hide the actual detector very well. Everyone knows cops hate to see detectors and naturally ASSume its because you always speed. In many cases when traveling they actually alert me to danger ahead (I did like that traffic alert feature on my old Escort)and actually protect the officer if he stops someone in a bad spot and leaves his unit on you know he's there and even if going the speed limit you do tend to slow down anyway. Safer for THEM.


Once you have those directional arrows on Valentine you just NEVER can live without them!

Radar/Laser detectors are a great tool but do work BEST on familiar roads where you KNOW where the Enemy likes to hide. If you're traveling unfamiliar roads Laser detection is frequently useless.

Fortunately here in PA only State Troopers are allowed radar/laser
Of course, their stealth depends on just how competant the trooper is using his equipment anyway.

I couldnt agree with you more. I dont care if you have a $1,000,000 Detector that serves you breakfast in bed, You cant detect "instant on" radar.

Instant On Radar? OF COURSE YOU CAN!
Granted if you are the only one on the road or the one leading the pack of cars then you are BUSTED! However, you can pick up Radar bouncing off of objects and making your detector chirp. That's why the directional arrow is essential since you then know if the temporary chirp was from objects off the roadside (like alarms or garage doors) or ahead which is more likely a trap.
Laser is much more difficult to detect in time since its like pointing a real gun and the laser doesnt dispurse like radar. Btw, I find it ironic that you are from the Fascist Police states of Virginia (where detectors are illegal) and NewJermany (where guns basicly are )....man you gotta move to a FREE state

I lived in VA for 19 years and so could never own a radar detector. When I moved to FL a few years ago I purchased a detector. It was nice to have my civil rights back

Personally, I like it for long trips -- it helps to keep me alert.

I agree. I know that detectors are not full-proof, but like the added intelligence and comfort that I'm not going it blind... watching the watchers, if you will.

As it relates to the range of the Escort 9500ix I'm amazed at the distances it picks up alerting me to what's up ahead or behind when compared to my older Escort.

They are only illegal if you get caughtotfl and My ak-47 stays here in Va.

out of curiousity where did you get it and what did it set you back....

I bought it at Best Buy for $504 plus tax. I'm more than happy with the unit and do not regret the purchase at all. The software interface to manage and update the unit is simple, quick and fast. I passed on the professional install because it mounts brilliantly and flows with the cockpit seamlessly. I'll snap a few photos and post tomorrow to illustrate.

Sure, but in my opinion no sense in having a Corvette (or any muscle or sports car) unless you open it up a bit when the opportunities present themselves. Actually, most of the time I drive right around the speed limit in the slow lane and only punch it when I need to. Nevertheless, to each his own. Cheers

I totally agree. On city and residential streets I would always suggest following the posted speed limit. For me when it comes to opening it up and/or punching it a bit is reserved for for the interstates and highways.

OK Thanks, Are all lessons over now?? I think with 2500 miles a week average for 21 years, I have a little bit of experience in driving. The original post was simply a question by Lobobuzz, I'm sure he didnt buy the detector for school zones !!!!! Salute'
