I have a 1970 Corvette. I have a noise in the FM radio when the antenna is installed. When I remove the antenna the noise is gone but I am limited in reception. Any ideas?

Is the antenna grounded? The assembly instruction manual (AIM) shows the ground plate and how the antenna mounts in it.
