Do these have problems reading burned CD's? I was thinking everyone of my CD's were scratched but I just spoke with a dealership about the possibility of something being wrong with the changer itself. The service manager said these CD changers are notorious for throwing err codes on burned CD's. In fact, he recommended not even bothering to attempt to play burned CD's. Isn't that just great! Has this been your experience....or was he just trying to blow me off.

Secondly, would a single CD player up front (in place of the cassette player I've now got) have the same problem reading burned CD's? I'm half-way tempted to ditch the darned cassette player (who uses those????) and replace it with the single CD player.

Triblack , I had a few burned ones that wouldn't play all the time but many that would . Some burners work better than others , some media disks work better than others and some players do too . Try switching media first . And remember to always make sure that slideing door on the player is fully closed . That gave me alot of trouble . Cliff

I'll reinsert the cartridge thing and make sure the door is closed. The car goes in next Wednesday for a laundry list of warranty things - so they may as well take a look at the changer, too. Thanks so much for your reply. :)

Hi, Andy. :) You're fortunate enough to be savvy enough to burn your own CD's and know the difference in burners. I rely on someone else to burn them for me and I believe it's a program called Roxie on a Dell 'puter.

I have burned CD's that play fine in the dash unit (and in the Sony changer in our Expedition) but will not play correctly in the 12 CD changer in the Vette. After much trial and error I found that using CD's with labels (apparently has something to do with the transparancy of the chrome bulk disks) and burning them as slow as possible is about the only way I can get them to play consistanly. I don't get error conditions they just sound full of static. Store bought CD's are no problem. Needless to say I was a little disappointed. There are numerous posts in the Forum on this subject that may be helpful

Thanks, Ed. How would I go about finding the other posts in the forum? :w

01TriBlack, I believe if you go back to the C5 Technical page and hit the search button, you can do a search on CD Changers which should bring up the other posts. This specific issue has been the most frustrating thing on this car, especially after getting the factory changer installed later on. I have 2 Sony 400 Cd changers in the house with 600 Store bought CD's and I figured if I just burned copies I wouldn't have to chance scratching the good one's (some are rare) but it hasn't worked as well as I had hoped. Such is life.

Isn't GM responsible for either repairing what's wrong with these darned changers (that would prevent us from using CD-R's) or replacing the unit with something that does work? This sort of thing really gets my dander up. We paid for a working CD changer, period. They should replace them with changers that will allow CD-R's. It shouldn't be our problem. I suppose I'm asking too much, right? I was afraid so. :(

:mad Mine Works Great At Scratching My Cd's:eyerole

Sounds like it works exactly like the recording industry wants them too. It is not a problem with the player, it's the CD's.

I use "burned" ones in mine, no prob.
I have used BD's recorder & Nero software on a Sony CD burner

I'm in the process of having my fav's re-burned. I'm hoping they were just scratched. We shall see. :)
