Hi,

Ive recently purchased 2X rear hub and bearing assemblies for my 87 vette.

Ive noticed strange things between them. One of them is harder to rotate than the other, and upon closer inspection, I found that the oil seal on the hub which is harder to rotate is installed further in by 1.5mm. It is also noisier when i listen to it whilst rotating it in my hands.

Is that anything to worry about, or has the seal been installed too far?
(I suspect it is in too far making it harder to rotate)

A new W/Bearing will be purdy stiff out of the box! As far as noise,I wouldn't think you would hear anything!:thumbI just went upstairs and grabbed a new one off the shelf and the seal is a bit recessed like the one on the left!!;shrug There is a ridge machined in them and the seal can't go in too far!!:thumb Be sure to torque the spindle Nut to 164 Ft Lbs rotate them a couple times and recheck! The bearings are made in 2 half's (Inside-Outside) and then pressed together,If there not torqued right they will work loose and damage the bearings and races in them!!:beer

Thankyou GMJunkie, much appreciated.
If there's a ridge inside them to stop the seal from going in too far, then my worries are over.

I'll have to buy a new torque wrench too as the ones I have go only up to 140ft-lb.

Thanks again, Tom :)
