rear shocks

When i purchased my vett (87) the previous owner had just put new monro shocks on it. I have noticed a vibration in the rear around 85 MPH. I jacked the car up today and at the lower attaching point the bushing is sliding out of the shock (about 3/4 to 1 inch from the nut and washer). It looks like the lower portion of the shock mount is not wide enough for the spindle or should there be a inside washer.

I wasn't sure so I just checked mine. The layout is this, large bolt through the rear spindle, Bignut to hold it in, shock ansorber has a metal sleeve through the bushing, washer then a nut. Vibration shouldn't be caused by a loose shock but if it's loose or bad it wouldn't stop either. Usually vibration would be caused by bad ujoints, Check for slop and or bad wheel balance, bent wheel.

Ihave changed all the univesals and have new rim, I checked the ballance on them befor I put the tires on. On mine it looks like the sleve and the busing are sliding out and that the upper and lower shock housing are rubbung on the left side. Im going to check with my parts guy in the AM I think they installed the wrong shocks.

You might need new shocks or at least bushings. The Monroe aren't the best for preformance. Beilstein are one of the best something alittle less expensive would be KYB Vette Brakes has a good price on them!

I had very poor luck with Monroe; finally got my $$ back on the warranty replacement set. Leakers!

I like the Bilsteins, valved to GS spec, on my Z-51.
