WOW!! That's really gettin with it!!! Is that one of four Lingetfelter TT ZR1's or one in four TT ZR1's ever built by anyone???

No, just by LPE.

Callaway has built 3 TT ZR1s and Mallett has built 1. I think there is a German company that built one or two also.

Yep, there's actually 4 Callaway TT's within 800 ft. of each other.
(Ultras and mine)

I have plans to make my 88 Callaway TT a bit more competitive. Hopefully it will be ready for the next 1 mile race.;)

I know a few people out at the old Naval air station " NAS "near Grand Prarie We use the facility alot for training ..Lots of old buildings to blow up and destroy ...I,m running the idea about an event such as the Texas one mile by the administrators of the base and what would need to happen to have an event ..It would be nice to have an event this close ....And we wouldnt have to worry about the Cops;;;;;ha ha

Tim that would be great ! There's alot of people here in N. Texas that are into more than just the 1/8th or 1/4 mle. I think this can gain momentum once the word gets out.

Yea, we don't want to worry about cops;) hehe

Possibly another 1 mile!

I spoke with JP from 21st Century at a car show a few weekends ago about his time out at the one mile track and doing another event. He mentioned possibly renting the track and doing this 1 mile thing again sometime in the future for others and his customers that have TT's and supercharged C5's, etc. I figure late spring would be a good time if possible.... If you are interested in attending, leave your support here and I will talk to him about a definate time should we get enough people. I think there were only 30 something cars the last time and a bunch of bikes. Hopefully we can get this going as my butt needs to get out there and go fast and the no cops thing is a big plus! It we could get the dallas NAS, that would be even better!

I,m in ...I just wish there was a place closer to the dallas area ..I think there would be a larger turn out.....

No doubt ! I know for a fact there would be hundreds there.

Hey White68, I live in Grand Prairie.
The flying mile would be cool at NAS Dallas. For all of the Mustangs(read: crappy brakes) you would have Mt. Creek lake to slow 'em down at the end of the runway. Maybe ultraslow could show up as well and awe the folks with his 415ci ZR-1. I'm in!!

Zipnz ..I hear you want to sell your Z for harley ? Don,t do it ;;;ha aha ....I think with all the local tuners here in the DFW area ..It could be a great event ..What a way to show your stuff ...Dynos # are great ,but its nice to see how the car runs compared to the others ...I don,t think the 4.10 geared cars fared as well as they could have if they would,ve had 3.73 or 3.45 justmy 2 cents
Also if anyone knows of an airport or other place in the metroplex that could host such an event lets throw out some ideas;;;;
The short shutdown area seemed to be a concern from the comments I,ve read....

Ultra's ZR1 is stock. His fast car is a 89 Callaway TT ;)

The old dallas NAS would be the place for DFW people... Anyone know someone affiliated with it, lets get it going! It is now a private airport called Millennium... Probably have to talk with someone with LTV, or something like that as I think that is what its for and its probably a no-go no matter what. It is 8000 ft long, so it would be a 2720 ft or brake smashing stopping distance... that should be pretty decent... If not the mustangs can show thier submarine skills in mountan creek lake :)

Being that I fly and have landed at 85% of the airports in texas, so far......The best airport I can think of that is close the DFW that would be long and may entertain an event like this would be "GYI" Grayson county airport in the Sherman Area. Not far from dallas at all, but far enough out to possibly entertain something as politically incorrect as this. It has a large 9000x150ft runway and an alternative 2300ft that could stay open for the few AC traffic that goes there while this event is being held....

Anyone good at organizing things and want to take this suggestion... Here is the phone # 903-786-2904 to the airport.... Probably would have to talk to the airport manager, then the county commissioner, then the FAA... I would think if this was approched right, its possible as this is a very large piece of concrete that does not see much use and I bet the county could use a few dollars towards its upkeep. This could also be sponsored by some of the car clubs in dallas too and could have a good turn out.... In fact, I will mention it to one particular myself and this could be an event.

We use the closed portion of NAS for training and there are two runways on the closed side, I,m not sure how long they are ,but I do have some contacts and will run this by them when I get more info from NASATX, the one who hosted the One Mile Shootout last month . They already have the equipment and infra structure to run the event We just need to find the location. NAS is owned by the city of Dallas and is curently under rehab. I,m going to be out there this week and will take a run in my city car and see how long the runways are....:)

What about the abandoned Frisco airport ?

Probably not but this is it....

F39... Grayson County... The black part alone is 9000X150FT!

Frisco is closed, unkept and only 6200 ft. Its also in a new area of town.... The homes around there would not stand for the possible noise even it it were an option.. Why do you think its closed to begin with... Also, the town of frisco has no need for our petty money... It one of the fastest growing towns in the US.... They would not even keep their 100 year old mascot name.... The Fighting Coons...... Gave it up for poiltically correctness... Shame on them.....We dont have a chance with a place like that.... You would also have a very hard time slowing down in less than 1000ft even if we used it... Its way too short.

Dallas NAS, the big and longest runway is 8000x100. It is long enough with a bit of brake smashing before the lake, but unless someone on this forum or in the corvette community has some serious pull, its just not going to happen from a my logical point of view... This is also a good emergency runway for DFW, DAL and Dallas Executive... I dont think they are going to give this option up without some major pull and there will be too many chiefs to go through to get it done. I am certain they will not see things the way we do or think our cause is even worthy.

The formentioned Sherman/Dennison Grayson county airport has all the right stuff. There is not much around it, it is not used a whole lot, there is an alternate runway that will keep tha airport open, its wider than any other above, its longer than any other above, and its not in the heart of DFW and has a bit of redneck appeal to it and is not more than an hour drive from most DFW residents. I also bet the county would not mind getting a little afternoon rent from it if presented right..... So its very possible that this airport could be a very good option....

This is the best I could come up with and I have thought about everything around DFW with every chart I have.... The second best choice would be Greenville... Shorter and more used than Grayson, but an alternative. There are no other 8000Ft+ runways around... This is it.

Anything shorter than 8000FT is going to present a big stopping problem for fast cars.... 5280 is a mile leaving you 2720ft to stop... It seems like a bit, but at 170-200MPH is not as long as you think. Remember Aircraft only hit the ground at about 100 or less at the beginning of these runways.... Although they are much heavier than our cars they do have up to 30,000 LBS of thrust and massive clutch pak brakes that compensate pretty darn close to a cars weight to brake ratio..... Some cars may be going close to 200 at the end end of this runway, not the beginning... ... Running on less than 8000FT runway for a full mile at near 200 and then stopping in our non race cars, is going to scare the crap out of you... I promise.....

http://www.co.grayson.tx.us/airport/AirMap.htm

I have sent an email to the manager of Grayson County F39 asking if this is something they would entertain.... We will see...

Email I sent is below.... I dont know what the organization is I mentioned in the letter, but its I guess we will come up with a name should it look like a possible deal.... Ideas?????? We should probably get the NASA people involved and JP at 21st Century also for his customers if the reply is positive.....

I'll post the reply here when the manager responds and this make this a more organized thing should it look cost effective, getting more people involved.

"Hi,

I have flown into F39 many times in my aircraft out of ADS. I love the 9000 ft runway and your airport! I am a member of an automotive organization and had a question/proposal for the managers/directors of the airport... What we are looking to do is
rent your 9000ft strip for an event where sports cars run a full mile, one car at a time against a clock and radar controlled environment. This goal is of course to see which car achieves the fastest speed. Many members are licenced SCCA racers
and will come from far away to attend this event. There are about 100 members of this organisation, all willing to pay a fee to be able to do this, raising money for the field rental, etc. If this looks like its possible, we can probably get even more people to commit. We would need to use your 9000 ft runway on a weekend for about a 6 hour event starting around 9AM or so. Your people could of course oversee the logistics of the event and plan it to fit your schedual. Our people would take care of the equipment and safety for the event and of course release you of all liability in case of an unseen occurance. If you have any food vendors, etc I am sure that this would be a good event for them, as there will be way more people than car entries. I know you have the crosswind 13/31 runway, and that could of course stay open and we would not interfear with traffic, although I
know it may limit some larger aircraft from possibly being able to land at F39 due to its length. If this is something you have the ablility to do at Grayson County Airport and could plan a day in the spring around early march or april, let me know what it would
take to make something like this happen."
