I'm searching for a upgrade camshaft for my stock, 1979, 350, L48 engine. I'm looking to gain 10 to 15hp if possible without making major changes. Could I gain better miles/gal ? A slight lope at idle wouldn't bother me either. I'm not a mechanic, so I need help!!!! ( I was going to install a 260 high energy cam, but as I drilled down to order, it does not fit my year according to mfg. )

You could gain more than 10-15 and do it without changing the cam, provided your engine is not high mileage and worn

1) Headers and true dual exhaust
2) Flowmaster mufflers
3) Rejet carb for best performance
4) Install Edelbrock Performer intake manifold
4) Recurve distributor for best performance
5) Install 1.6:1 rocker arms.
6) If necessary install new valve springs.

My guess you'll gain 15-20-hp if you do all that.

I agree with Hib. A good friend had a 79 L48. Just by putting headers and true dual exhaust on it lowered the ET in the 1/4 mile from 14.90 to 14.30 and picked up three miles an hour in trap speed.
