Well, I've done most of my posting on the Tech Discussion forum, until now, never even checked this forum until a couple weeks ago, so I hope all those who helped me and gave advice find me over here. I'm posting here because my previously stock car is going back together with very few of the original powerplant and drivetrain parts :gap.

The car's been off the road for over three months while I figured out just what lengths I was going to go to in repairing the worn out motor after less than a year of ownership :bash. I hadn't intended or prepared for this early a demise with only 112,000 mi on what appeared to be a well cared for Vette, in very nice shape for it's age.

For several reasons, I decided not to rebuild my own motor, not the least of which was the cost to do what I wanted to do. I kept my eyes open for something that looked like it would fit the bill or just strike me right. Fianlly, about a month or so ago, I ran across and engine and seller that had promise, after one or two other possibilities fell through for one reason or another.

Of course during these months I bought several things anticipating using them, which I probably won't for the time being, but may use some of them for rebuilding the original motor. For instance, by the time this thing gets finished I'll have four intakes, only one in use, and one stock :(

Man, there just ain't a lot to do when your baby's off the road all summer with the engine on the garage floor, accept work to try to get the money to get her fixed, and scheme on ways to get her fixed ;shrug

I'm going to post the progress here over the next month or so, for those who helped me with my quest and anyone else who might be interested in a peek. I plan to post several pictures and links as I go.

I guess I'll start from present time and if anyone wants to know history I'll be happy to try and provide what info I can as I have the time. The engine, transmision amd driveline as well as the full exhaust were removed and none of it is going back without extensive modification.

I cleaned the engine compartment the best I could, over about three days with Blast, a toothbrush and a hose. I also cleaned all the front suspension parts in the same manner, however toward the end I also employed a pressure washer. They look great and I'll post photo's later.

I replaced the driveline U-joints with Spicer (non zirked) PN 5-786x and cleaned the driveline
I'm gonna quit here, until I can figure out how to post thumbnails that will link to the larger photo's on a new page. I'm missing something.

You said you have 4 intakes. What 4 do you have?

Lemme see if I can remember all his posts :)

1. stock TPI
2. modified LT1
3. Miniram II
4. SuperRam & manifold

Am I right? Do I win a prize? :)

Seems to me since the motor's out of the car anyway, he should try all four intakes and dyno them and give us the results. As if he doesn't have enough to do...

Rich, definately has too much time on his hands, wins the :beer :eek The original TPI off my blown motor, the miniram on the motor I bought which has the LPE 219 cam and needed a cam or a SR to be setup right, so the SR will be on it's way tomorrow, (just in time for me to leave for hunting for a week), and the LT1 conversion which I got tied into, before I made up my mind and had to go through with, having made the deal:bash :(

Man I know this really seems rediculous, but when you haven't done anything like this before, you just try to move in some direction to get things moving. The important thing is to get it right when you finally go for it, and not settle for the wrong thing. I'll sort it out later. But this much is for sure now. It's the 383 stroker, 219 cam and SR with the AFR 195 heads that so many people rave about:D

Hmmmm....wonder what left over parts might work on my 85?

xmas present....hint....hint.....hint.... Oh thats right you already got yours....hehehehehehehehehe

Left over parts Ray? What ever do you mean?:L Well,uh,there might be a couple I guess:confused .

Just got back from a succesful deer hunt, 5 of 6 tags filled. I got 1+;) :r

Guess I forgot to post that I installed a safety loop for the driveshaft

and got the rebuilt tranny in before I left. Only dropped it once :hb

I also have a Hughes Converter, 2500 stall waiting for the motor to go in.

Yesterday I got the motor out of the crate, cleaned it up a little, and painted the block. I'm probly just going to put links to any further photo's as I get em uploaded, cause I tried for hours to figure out the thumbnail link, without seccess. Looks like I need to get thumbnail size photo's to use, and I'm not sure I've got the time to go to the trouble to make them.

I hope to mate the engine up and bolt it in Saturday, then the boltons or the SR, which hasn't arrived yet, depending on what the best order is for getting the SR on easily and correctly. Just keep pluggin' away. I hope to have it running before Elk season at the end of the month.

moon i think thats gonna be a bad ass ride once your done! :D

Thanks Mad-Mic, I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but what your doing for almost no bucks is way impressive, wish I could have gone down that road, but mine wouldn't last. I think you got an exceptional car there!

Thanks RJSROCKET. Just got done mateing up the motor:J I'm gonna go out and tie it all together and get the motor mounts bolted in. I'll post some photo links tomorrow. It went very smoothly! No SR yet:(

Well, guess I'll start with the photo links

They're self explanory. Take a look if you like. I didn't bolt anything up last night, as I went back out and looked at the spaghetti mess I got overwhelmed and decided that I'd go and try to associate my notes with my photo's. Oh boy, even though I tried to put photo #'s with each detailed notation, well, uh, this is going to be a chore just matching those up.

This of course is complicated by the fact that I think I D/C'd a bunch of ground wires from the back of the block after I had the motor out a little bit, and I'm not sure if I can get them back on with the engine in place. Getting the main wiring harness back down where it belongs looks questionable as well.

All that doesn't even take into consideration that basically the only thing that will be the same as what I took out is the block as far as the wiring and some sensors and so forth there's gonna be a lot of things with no where to go

I'm feeling a little overwhelmed at this point, but, hopefully a fresh look after a good night sleep will give fresh perspective. If anyone knows about the grounds and the main harness or anything else I might have not given cosideration before bolting the motor and tranny I'm open for advice and constructive comment. Thanks

The SR and TPiS big mouth showed up yesterday:J I pick up a D44 tomorrow:D It's all ods and ends and luck from here, Oh yea and a little bit (right!) of work.

The SR went in today without a hitch. Thanks Corvette0096, for taking the time to make this a pleasure instead of a nightmare story :BOW

The D44 is here and waiting for inertia;LOL Slowly, but surely, it's coming along and the twelve second club, maybe eleven, is close at hand:_rock
