Ok - answer me this - both Jerry and I are perplexed about this.

IF you don't have uneven brake wear (talking about the front)
IF you don't have any pulling to the left and right
IF the wheel bearings are good
IF the idler arm and such are good

AND you have SEVERE shaking when you apply the brakes, does this STILL mean the calipers are bad? It seems unlikely to us but then again we could be wrong

Severe shaking while applying breaks usually means the rotors are warped. Usually turning the rotors takes care of this...for a while...best bet is to replace the rotors and pads and be done with it. I really like the Raybestoes Pro series pads...they stop you quick and best of all they are dustless !!

Hmm Ive replaced alot of suspension parts both on the Vette and my Jeep and heres what I think you should check out.

If the Rotors are OK then..

Rack and Pinion system?
Ball Joints?
Bearings?
(Not sure if this applys) But Stablizer pin IN the Caliper

Check it out! My Jeep was having the Violent shakes and it ended up being a few things combined mostly the Tyrods so have a look. Also I justed finished worked on a 89 New Yorker with rear disk brakes brought in because of the wobbles and it ended up being these stabilzer pins in the calipers (Which we made work due to the 1200/Caliper price tag)

there is a good article online about the warped rotors myth... you might want to read it... I will try to find it for you....

about the problem...

have you completely flushed the fluid? are there any leaks?... what could be the problem is one piston is sticking, causing the shake... BUT, this should only happen on one wheel... very unlikely to happen to more than one at a time... so, can you tell where the vibration is coming from? what you can do, since it is up front, leave the hood unlatched (but closed) and you should be able to tell which side is shaking

I do not know of any "Myth"...but in 40 years of working on cars
it has always been the rotors...It was the same thing on my 85...hit the pedal and loose a filling. Changed out the rotors and all is fine. Now I just pointed out the obvious... there is always an exception to the rule. If the rotors have been replaced then I should think it is time to align the front end. At which time most good mechanics will make a cursory look for damaged or worn parts underneath. At this point the problem may be any number of things associated with the suspension and or steering.
