Slip Sliding Away: Tranny

Ok, forgive my ignorance but what does a slipping clutch feel like?

When I shift on hard excelleration, the car seems to be in a game of catchup with the engine.

There is no "chatter" like I've experienced in other cars, which is what I would call a slipping clutch, it just feels like a big rubberband is getting wound up before the car actually starts pulling hard.

I figured that my baby would need a new clutch soon, but I just want to make sure this odd problem isn't something else as well.

watch the tac and the speedometor. compare at light throttle and hard exceleration . From what you discribe I agree with Ken

how about smell? Usually a slipping clutch as you describe would stink

if it is slipping at full throttle, I would expect it to get hot quick and smell... but I agree with you as it isn't always going to happen

Thanks everyone for your input, there is no smell that I can detect, but most of the time the top is down and I'm just enjoying the drive.

Every once in awhile I had to add fluid to the clutch reserve, but the previous owner said that he had to do that from the get go.

I guess I'm looking at replacing the flywheel at the same time, I've read somewhere that I might as well do it while the tranny is out of the car. Since Ecklers are selling the flywheel for 1k, I'm guessing this is going to cost me at least 3 grand, maybe more.:ugh

You might be able to have the flywheel surfaced, not replaced. Search for threads, here.

Low fluid could prevent the clutch to fully disengage, not cause it to slip.
