I have not used it but I am considering it. I have read that it's easy to install. I am wondering if it's truely cold-air myself. I have also read the Varram is actually cold-air but not so easy to install as the Blackwing....I suppose they all have good/bad points....let me know how yours is....I have not made up my mind yet....which one it will be

I will let you know about the insatllation. I think the only true cold air system would have to get the air from outside the engine compartment. The SLP,K&N ect get the air from inside the compartment, but for me I am not ready to start cutting holes on my 09.

It's not a true cold air. The Vararam is but I've read a few complaints about it. Buddy of mine had a Vararam that he swore was the biggest piece of crap. A guy I know had a VR on his '01 SW Z06 and said that it ingested water through the intake and hydrolocked the motor.

I have the BW on my '03 Z06. It's a pretty big filter.

The stock filters that come on Corvette's really amaze me with their small size.

I have the blackwing on my '06. I bought it more for looks than for performance. And, yes, it is not a true cold-air system as it gets its air from inside the engine compartment.

But don't worry, it is an easy installation. The instructions say to attach the metal bar to the front crossmember first. However, I found it easier to attach it to the filter first then attach the assembly to the front crossmember.

Don't worry, you will see what I am talking about when you begin installing it. Just take your time and it will go smoothly.

The Calloway Honker is a true cold air induction, but you mentioned not wanting to cut any holes yet so you probably would not want it. They are a little pricey $400-500. You can get a pretty good deal from Corvettes of Houston. Thats where I got mine. I installed my own but it was a bear getting the plastic radiator schroud out. It comes with complete and detailed instructions. So far never had any problems.

Something I am not sure of now is hydrolock with true cold-air systems.....could that be a problem with Calloway Honker???

To be honest with you, I asked the Callaway Rep when I bought it and he said they had not experienced any problems thus far. It was a concern of mine as well. I live in a wet state and I have not experienced any problems thus far. Perhaps after the next heavy rain I will pull out the filter and see if it is damp. If c4c5specialist sees this post perhaps he can shed some expertise on this for you. The Callaway Cars Inc. phone # is 1-860-434-9002, (Callaway Cars). Hope this helps.

I will keep you posted, I am still waiting for it! Seems like SLP made some modification to it and are waiting for the new parts. They told me that it should ship the last week of the month

Blackwing system

I installed the BlackWing system tonight, not a bad project. I do have a question for you. Did you notice a change in your idle speed.Mine is now bouncing adound a little. More then it did with the stock system

The BlackWing is pretty good. It draws from in front of the radiator so yes the air is more or less cold.

Word of warning though; On the C5 the manufacturer recommends that you add a front hood seal when installing the BlackWing. Without the seal water running down the hood will drip on to the filter. I assume the same is true for the C6.

I would suggest doing the idle relearn for the LS1 that you have found. It probably won't hurt anything though I would't necessarily unhook anything first.

Question:

Do you guys think that there is chance that water will get into the Blackwing?

Mine is a C5 but I think this should apply to both of us. If the hood is opened and wet, I notice that water will drip onto the Blackwing.

I tried the relearn, still the same. In park its about 525-550 and then it will take a dip below 500 and come right back to 525-550 again. I will take it for a ride tomorrow and p[ut 50-75 mi on it and see what happen.
Thanks for the reply Tony

Did you chech to make sure everything was sealed up and no air could enter through the couplings? That could also be an issue.
