Smooth air "coupler" installed today and a question

Ok guys and gals lets try to clear up the question of the gray wire connector he has hanging in the front of the engine. I have just gone out and looked at the front of my 93 and I think the wire connector he is talking about goes to the water pump temp sensor. That is the only thing I can see from the drivers side that would have a chance to rub the pulley if it were off. Anybody have a 95 they can look at for this wire?

Thanks John, whatever wire it is, it's one tough SOB! Not seafoam tough, but it's almost worn all the way through and is still hanging on. I have the manuals I was talking about the other day, I'm home now, so I may start digging into them to see if I can find the exact name for this wire.

QUESTION: This water pump temp sensor, is it connected (somehow) to the TEMP gauge on/in the dash? My car, according to the temp gauge, runs past 250-260 range if I sit static for a while. Can it just be the wire (if it's indeed this wire) causing the gauge to show so "hot"? I've yet to have anifreeze overflow and I would think that if the car actually got that hot, I would have an overflow. Right?

The sensor it goes on is on the front of the water pump. The ecm uses it to determine when the temp is up high enough to go into closed loop. ON the passenger side of the engine between the two back plugs on the block is another temp sensor that (from memory ) I think goes to the analog gauge or maybe the digital not sure one of them.

With VIN P engines, the one screwed into the left head provides ECT data for the gauge.

The one screwed into the water pump provides ECT data to the ECM.
