bright red 1984 crossfire
ok i asked for it so feel free to kick me in the arse at anytime but im gonna ask one of "those" questions!

who has what opinion on what plugs to put in my bone stock 84 crossfire... the onlty reason i really even ask this is i know the crossfire can be a tempermental SOB so what i really wonder is what have others used... when i did my 82 i put in accel u groove from what i can recall since everything else i put in was accel. and while i had no problems with them i was dreading the day i had to pull them and change them again just because of how hard they were to get to... the 84 is a breeze:upthumbs.. maybe the easiest engine compartment i have ever worked in as far as accesibility is concerned....

;shrug i always wonder what happens when a post is up and then the next minute it doesnt show up in your user cp or under new posts... how the heck am i supposed to get all those expert opinions;shrug

You wanted an opinion, so I'll give you one...the colder you can get beer without freezing it, the better...oh, and about the spark plugs, personally I'd go with a stock or comparable to stock AC Delco/Champion/NGK plug. Someone out there may have it, but I've never seen what I would believe is proven results that any of the high dollar gimmick plugs out there actually produce more power. The only thing they're good for I believe is making your wallet lighter and fouling out quicker which will have you going back for more which will make your wallet lighter again...

you are 100% right... beer is better the colder it gets:beer.......as are all beverages in my opinion.......

my only disagreement with you here is that i cant imagine they havent made some improvements in spark plugs since 1984..... the only thing that has been perfect for that long is the mouse trap

84 Crossfire Spark Plugs

AC Delco---Don't try to outguess the GM engineers. If we knew how many hours they spent on the dynos, we would never try anything else. Don't embarass Zora!

AC Delco. Works great, last long time.

I've seen some strange stuff with fancy plugs with pucks and multiple tips etc. Next time you go to a NASCAR race or a circle track, check the plugs in a Chevy powered racer. Prolly AC Delco's.
and Beer should be at about 35 degrees. :beer

A number of yrs ago I got my hands on some spark plug specification-application books. They had a chart of the heat ranges of diff brands of plugs. The champion replacement plug for an AC plug had different heat range than the AC plug. The champion heat range overlapped two AC plugs not really matching either AC plug fully. Two diff champion plugs each covered about 50% of the AC plug.
This may be true of other brands also. This means that if you install another brand plug with what they recommend, you may not have the true heat range that you should have. I will never replace an AC plug with another brand in a stock GM engine. A modified engine changes heat range requirements,in that case a diff brand might be better suited.

I Agree,100,000,000,000,000 % :thumb :D:D:D

G Winter I remember something like that also about Autolite sparkplugs. The deal was that if you wanted to run a 1/2 step hotter plug, you would buy the recommended Autolite and run that one.

So using the actual recommened AC plug is the way to go on stock engines.

Good call G Winter

Ironicly, when stopped at Advance Auto yesterday the counter guy was berating a friend of his in the lot who had a Caddy with Northstar for having wasted $ on Bosch plugs. :ohnoes

I replaced with ACDelco when I first bought Vette during the 90's a couple of times and wasnt satisfied. Not everything to come out GM's butt is gold! They ARE the morons who put a 305 intake on a 350 ...RIGHT? :eyerole:boogie

I put the Bosch platinum in a LONG TIME ago and they are still great!
Btw, It must be also be great when your engine is rebuilt after every race like in NASCAR.:w

i have always had a thing for bosch..... comes from when i was a kid and my father was probably one of the areas top VW mechanics.... but he thinks bosch has gone WAY downhill in quality since his days

I've run the AC/Delco Rapidfires for a couple of years now with no problems.

Running AC Delco Rapidfires in my 1989. I did notice a smoother idle vs. stock ACs. Good time to change the wires.

Pardon my ignorance, what are AC delco rapidfires ?

Did research , they are AC Delco platinums. Sounds like a resonable alternative to the original after reading Delcos information.

In all honesty I'm a sucker for stock plugs..BUT I did buy a 90 Cavalier as a beater car and put a set of Bosch+2 plugs in it for kicks and grins..I can honestly say I was really impressed with the difference it made in the idle and throttle response of the little 2.2.I was impressed enough that I put a set in my '00 Crown Vic and The Vette. As for the Rapidfires, you can get them in platinum I guess, but what they are is pretty much a stock plug..with little ridges around the electrode, supposedly it makes the spark jump around the electrode..I tried a set years ago on a '90 T/A and didnt notice anything at all.

After spending close to forty (40) years (Yes, I do look young for my age! :L) in the auto (domestic & foreign) & truck (medium & heavy duty) repair industry, I have formulated many opinions about spark plug choice and usage.

My favorite spark plug is:

Oh, forget it! There is no way I am getting into this discussion! :boogie :boogie :boogie

Hey, buddy! Yes, I have looked in a mirror recently. Of course, I cannot say what happened. As soon as I finish sweeping up in my bathroom, I will be able to get back to this highly informational thread! :boogie:boogie:boogie

WILL SOMEONE PUHLEASE SAVE THE :w?

I have to chuckle every time I see or hear rapidfire plugs.
When they came out I couldn't believe my eyes. The rest of you in my age group may remember what AC plugs looked like in the 60s . They had little ridges around the center elctrode. :chuckle They didn't come out with anything new in the rappidfire plug, they just went back to making them right like they did in the 60s.;LOL Wish I still had one of those to show.
