Hey whats the deal with starter removal, I had the whole side of my 86 jacked up, I removed the fly wheel guard, (which wasn't easy), the 2 bolts were easy enough, but getting to the electrical connections was a bear, even after that I can't find the room to phisically remove it due to fuel or gas lines ect.. the book just says remove guard and 2 bolts....Thanks,

Hi Gary

In my '84, there was a clamp holding two oil cooler lines attached to the bellhousing. Remove this clamp (or disconnect the lines) and there should be enough room to slide the starter out.

I had to change the starter in my 85 in a McDonalds parking lot 180 miles from home. I didn't remove the fly wheel guard or oil lines. I removed the two mounting bolts first, then let the starter hang down so I could get to the electrical connections.
