Terry "Troy" Powers worked the night shift on the assembly line at DaimlerChrysler's St. Louis Mini-Van Plant for 13 years. While working nights on the line he obtained a degree from Webster University and got a job as a tooling Engineer. Dad was a proud UAW member for over 30 years. He never forgot his roots and always referred to the guys working the line as "The bread and butter of the company". In November of 2006 he was diagnosed with Diabetic Kidney Disease. On September 7, 2007 he passed away. Dad loved cars and never retired. For years he talked about getting a Corvette. His wishes were not to have a funeral or services. Next spring my brother and I plan to take his ashes home to Evansville, Indiana. This 96 triple black convertible Corvette will be his last ride to his final resting spot.....
"90MPH with our hair on fire" as he used to say.

Thanks Billy. My Brother is a systems engineer for a medical hardware/software company(super smart guy) I'm not quite as sharp as he is but have made a pretty decent living working on prototype aerospace projects and currently Fabricate control surfaces for F/A-18's.

Yes we made him very proud.

Great community and really great cars!

Sorry about your Dad passing.. Sounds like a great guy.

Welcome to the CAC!

This is an awesome story and tribute to your father, a trip that sounds as if it may be bitter sweet but I am sure even though there are only 2 seats in the Vette he will be right there with you in spirit as well. An absolute trip of love for a fellow :BOW "hoosier" it just doesn't get much better than this.

Have a safe trip, Gods speed and welcome to the CORVETTE ACTION CENTER.

Thanks Bill, glad you liked the story. Bitter Sweet indeed. There is room for his remains in the middle like in the picture. Last X-mas the three of us were together four years ago. .

When I was a kid we would often visit my Uncle and his family in Evansville. Born in Indiana and a proud "Hoosier" Dad was quick to correct Missourians who used "Hoosier" incorrectly or as a derogatory term. Most Missourians don't know or want to forget the nickname we were given during the 1800's .....

"Puke"

Suddenly "Hoosier" doesn't sound so bad does it my fellow "Pukes"?

My Grandfather (life long UAW member) relocated to St. Louis, Mo with his wife and three sons in the 60's. Dad had sooooo many great stories, and if memory serves, Chrysler moved and Grandpa followed the job.

Both my parents are gone, sometimes you don't know what you got until you don't have it anymore. Also thanks for the history update on "Hoosier" I did send that link to a few fellow Hoosiers.

Again have a safe trip and I know your father will like it too :upthumbs

drjonesn,

First, welcome to the :CAC

Thanks for sharing your story with us. We all need reminders of the great importance of parents in our lives. Remembering how great our parents are (and were) gives us the encouragement to do our best with our own children.

You were lucky to have such a great father. :beer
