Any advice as to storing C6. Do I unhook battery or just disconnect negative? Will I have to get it reprogramed?

Welcome to CAC! :w I don't disconnect my battery. I have a Battery Tender" attached whenever mine is stored away.

When I store my 08 for any length of time I disconnect the negative terminal .I've found that the car will reprogram everything automatically after driving 10-20 miles .Short term storage 2-4 weeks I use a tender when possible .
I believe that in the C5 owners manual GM actually recommended disconnection of battery for long term storage .Never read the C6 manual ;)

If you don't mind reprogramming ALL your settings, just disconnect the ground cable from the battery. Should you NOT want to have to reprogram all those settings, use a Battery Tender.

I prefer the tender myself. But to each their own.

Which settings are you talking about ?

How to prevent accidental short. My negative clamp has no plastic cover

If your talking about after removing your negative cable and leaving it loose, you have nothing to worry about since your power source (battery) is disconnected. The same would be applicable to your positive cable. Once either of the battery cables (positive or negative) are disconnected from the battery, both cables are dead with the exception of minimal capacitor voltage that will dissipate.

Do you recommend windows open? Closed?

I am talking about the myriad of personal settings involved. If you have a 2 or 3 LT trim package and/or multiple drivers, you'll know what I mean.

Goldie, the ground cable, aka: the black cable or negative is common(connected) either directly or indirectly to every metal part in the car. So as long as it's not directly touching the Red, positive, or HOT cable while it is connected to the battery, you're "Golden!" (Fine)

Disconnect the ground cable and let it hang there. PERIOD!

While it's off,.....CLEAN IT!

Also, unless you want the car full of dust, close the windows. You can use silicone spray (wiped on with a rag or sponge) to treat the weatherstrips.

It wouldn't matter if it does, if the battery cable is disconnected.

In fact jumping the disconnected ground cable to the positive cable is one of the approved ways to discharge the capacitors in the electronics for memory clearing.

I understand that LLC. It doesn't matter worth a hill of beans if the positive is disconnected also. I was making a point for the non-professionals who need everything spelled out for them.

I edited the post to hopefully make it IDIOT-PROOF! But, you never know.

The only real danger is when disconnecting the positive post first instead of the negative. In this situation if the metal tool bridges the car chassis (negative ground) to the battery positive post a short circuit will occur.

NEVER disconnect the POSITIVE first. You "can" activate the airbag and/or damage other electronic components if you should cause an "ARC."

ALWAYS disconnect the ground (black cable)first and re-connect the ground LAST!

Ground cable is FIRST OFF and LAST ON! ALWAYS!

April 1st is coming out day for my 3lt 08 convertible .It had been stored in a cold dark garage since last November with temperatures as low as -20 for days . I felt bad that it didn't winter with me in Florida but she doesn't like the traffic .Anyway I hooked up my battery negative terminal pushed the start button and we backed out of the garage .I check for oil spots on the floor ,checked oil level and tire pressure .I started the car and while waiting for the car to come up to temp a little .It took me less than 2 minutes to index my windows and reset the memory ,the car did the rest .:thumb

Side note I bought the car new and presently have 76,000 miles on it with no issues ,Runs just like my Fords .

Woa there. Runs like your Fords?

That's a discommunication of paradoxes there...... :)
