I know volumes have been written in this Forum regarding problems with Bose system. My problem is a high-pitch whining just started from the front passenger side speaker. First couple of times I heard it, merely turning the radio off/on eliminated the problem, but I knew it would only get worse. My Vette is a '90 - the Bose is the CD/Tape model. My car has 26,000 original miles, so you can see how much time is spent in it. Sometimes riding, I just as soon listen to the exhaust so the audio stystem is not on all the time. Other than that, my wife is constantly reminding of the speed limit, so I can hardly hear the radio/CD over her remininding me of my less than perfect driving record! Given that, $900-$1200 for a new system is not viable for me. My guess is it is probably the amp gone in the speaker. I looked back thru old threads and saw one thread where a suitable amp. can be purchased for about $19 and will be adequate along with a noise canceller from Radio Shack. Anyway, I know someone on this forum has more than likely experienced the same problem and can tell me for sure whether it is the Amp. or something else, such as a resistor. Since it is only in one speaker, I wouldn't think it is a ground problem. The frequency of the whining does not vary according to an increase/decrease in engine RPM's. I have also read about replacing a small green resistor in the amp. if one has soldering skills. While not an expert, I can do soldering.
