I know volumes have been written in this Forum regarding problems with Bose system. My problem is a high-pitch whining just started from the front passenger side speaker. First couple of times I heard it, merely turning the radio off/on eliminated the problem, but I knew it would only get worse. My Vette is a '90 - the Bose is the CD/Tape model. My car has 26,000 original miles, so you can see how much time is spent in it. Sometimes riding, I just as soon listen to the exhaust so the audio stystem is not on all the time. Other than that, my wife is constantly reminding of the speed limit, so I can hardly hear the radio/CD over her remininding me of my less than perfect driving record! Given that, $900-$1200 for a new system is not viable for me. My guess is it is probably the amp gone in the speaker. I looked back thru old threads and saw one thread where a suitable amp. can be purchased for about $19 and will be adequate along with a noise canceller from Radio Shack. Anyway, I know someone on this forum has more than likely experienced the same problem and can tell me for sure whether it is the Amp. or something else, such as a resistor. Since it is only in one speaker, I wouldn't think it is a ground problem. The frequency of the whining does not vary according to an increase/decrease in engine RPM's. I have also read about replacing a small green resistor in the amp. if one has soldering skills. While not an expert, I can do soldering.

I know there is a wealth of knowledge among the forum members, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I agree about the wealth of knowledge to be found on this site, you're right, this question has been answered lots and lots of times, in great detail, by myself and many other very helpful people. I wish someone would put the Bose topics in a stickie somewhere, as historically there are some very good replies to this topic yielded by the search function. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Yes it is probly the Amp with a cold solder joint!! Water get's in them sometimes!! at plug's and shorts them out, sometimes you can just clean plug's and thay will be alright and sometimes thay won't!! Some times you can change Power capacitor in amp if that dont do it, Capacitor at Radio Shack less than $2.00!! and some times just resolder cold solder joint on capacitor and that will fix it!! I'v never seen amp's less than $95.00 for Reman, There's a Electronic's Shop in Hickory N.C that Repairs for $65.00 if you take it out, if I take it out I just Fix it and put it back!! :upthumbs junk!!
