Targa Truss experience?

Would those of you that have one of the Targa-Truss bars please comment. I have only read of one owner's experience, but there must be more C4 owners who now have one of these. I live in southern CA, so taking the top off my C4 should be a desirable experience, but the resulting increase in body flex and vibrations makes topless driving an unpleasant experience. At over $400, I really want to know if you owners think it is worth it.

A good friend has one but its use is limited to autocross and track days. It works great for these events and takes all of the shake out of the car. They are a bit more difficult to put in than the targa top (car has to be level) and the headroom is a bit less than with the solid targa top installed. He had to install a Sparco seat to be able to wear a helmet with the Targa-Truss installed. But the car (93) is more of a hobby racer than his Sunday ride (a 2002).

C4 coupes are know for cowl shake and it's something that most people live with. Performance suspension options like Z51 or Z07 make the car stiff and increases the shaking. If you are concerned about security when you leave the car for any length, it might become a PITA to unbolt the Targa Truss and replace it with the factory top when you have to leave the car locked. The T-T just barely fits in the storage area so if you have stuff there, you might have to do some rearranging before palcing it in the back.

Try experimenting with tire pressures. I run 28 psi front and
30 psi rear for street driving on my 87 coupe (Z52 with poly bushings and Z51 shocks). 35psi is just too much.

I like mine very much. I searched out the products available at the time and found only 2 types. One is mandrel bent but intrudes into the space where one's head tries to reside. The other is square tubing that is bent a little closer to the centerline of the cockpit thus allowing a little more head space (targa truss). I like the targa truss just fine. It does work as advertised. I can't stand the body flex without it.

Targa Truss

Thanks. I spoze I'll just have to save up the $400 and get one. Plus lower my tire pressure a bit; I do normally run 35 psi, I'll try 30 in the front when I plan to have the top off.

wx, do you also use lower tire pressure when the top is off, or does the truss negate the need to do that?

I have the FE1 suspension (standard). I use 32 front and 34 rear with the Goodyear D3's. I suppose a little less air pressure might be a little softer on flex. But really, I am quite satisfied with the ride as is.
