Just bought a 2003 Zo6 before xmas. Didnt get the extra key or remote. (the original owner said he couldnt find them.) Now I realize that someone else other than me has a key to my car. granted the original owner is over 800 miles away and probably really does NOT have the extra key, but you never know!.
open to suggestions..what to do.
I was thinking about disable the fuel pump? any thoughts from you guys.
thanks
Dave

Reprogram your current fob with the DIC and that will make any other fob useless.

You can buy a new ignition switch for $40, easy to install + a new key + $20 to have the key reprogrammed.

That will be more complex for the door. You could install a new door lock too, but I never investigated this area.

I got only one key when I bough the car. Previous owner is 50 miles away, but I’m not too concerned. He sold me the C5 to get a C6 so I do not think he will look for the C5 anymore….

I don't think you have to worry about it. Just have someone watch your Vette everytime you park it somewhere:L

I agree the previous owner is probably not a problem. You can reprogram the fob and probably need to buy another fob anyway, so its a convenient time. That said, its always easy to install a "kill switch" of some type that will stop a joy ride. The pros will come and haul your vette away and it is amazing that poeple will watch them do it.

As an aside., I was in a WalMart lot and saw a haul away ramp style wrecker working on a Porche. I called the police who arrived in about 5 minutes. They were out there in a group for quite a while and I was curious enough to enter another store for a few minutes to see what went down. When I returned, no cops, no wrecker, but the Porche was still there. I never did find out what happened, but there may be a happy Porche owner out there or one that hates a meddling passer by.

If it is stolen, you'll know who did it!

**I'm definitely in this for the long haul!**

I would take the extra precautions. You have how much $$$$ tied up in the car and to worry about theft over what amounts to chump change. Then there is always "The Club".

When I had my 65' I saw two shady characters follow me home two days in a row. I looked pretty shady myself then so imagine how bad they looked. A few days later I saw them parked a half block from my house watching the car. I took a Polaroid of them ... then took a "casual stroll" and when I got up on them walked over to the car; "I got a photo, my dad's a cop and if the Vette is gone .... your ass is grass" (I was at the 200 pound mark then). They went away.

:)

Kill switches are pretty cheap, and they'll definitely do the job. You can pick one up for about $15.00.
