Got me a new Plastic Lens and some Paint for the second hand I borrowed from Kid_Again.. Ok...I got the Lens and Chrome Bezel assembly seperated from the clock meck and body.

Now How the F do I get the lens out of the bezel and black trim assembly. It looks like the chrome bezel has 3 set's of 2 pins each that are pien-ed over and are holding everything together.

What do I do here.. drill out the pin's???

Mark -- the ncrs corvette restorer article I have says you have to drill out the 6 rivets. It also implies that getting the lens back in can be VERY challenging. The lens has to be glued in. How about trying to clean the lens first with some compund for plastic. The article recommends cleaning as opposed to replacing unless the lens is cracked.

Thanks for the reply John,

I have allready bought a new lens from Doc Rebuild.. I'd rather put the new lens in than try and make Shin-ola..Out of S_ _ T and try and remove scratchs..

I wonder if anyone here has done the lens replacement thing....???

Hello,

I Drill out the rivets, then used really small self tapping screws. Worked well for me. oWEN

However, I have also used plastic scratch removing compound to clean lens on many gauges with much success.

Good Luck, oWEN

I just finished reinstalling my clock last weekend.

Use Dremmel bit to carefully grind ends off.

My problem was that the previous owner tried to use a glue/silicone to reattach the Bezel, but it came apart during driving recently.

I thought of the screw method after reading it in past posts but I don't have access to a drill press to do it right and didn't want to screw up the Bezel.

I have used J-B weld Metal on certain Motorcycle parts with great success Bonding power for Metal is unbelievable.

I used a small amount on each Bezel stud prior to assembly and then a small amount on top of each stud once attached to the housing, then put everything back together, let it dry well overnight and reassembled and installed the clock back into the the Dash. So far So good. Once the J-B Weld dries it will not let go and looks very clean.

The other alternative is to spend $50.00 on a new Bezel and Peen over the ends of the studs like the factory.

Good luck,

Nick

A Dremel will do it

Mark,

Dremel has a small " router " type bit that can be used to grind away the peened over part around the circumference of each rivet, without having to drill, or remove the rivet completely. Once your all done, the two parts can easily be separated.

Too reassemble, re-insert the remaining part of each rivet through the case, and carefully peen over. Every clock I have restored has been done in this way, and none have ever come apart.

Thanks Wolf an Nick... I'm going to try and polish out the fine scrathes in the lens.. If I'm not happy with the results...I'll try the dremal and or the JB Weld.

I have use the JB Weld before with very good results... But I like the Wolf's suggestion also..

Thanks..

Hi
I took mine to a watch maker, they striped the clocked serviced it and replaced the lens at the same time. Too fine a job for the every day man

Hey Mark...you shoulda' called....I've done a dozen or so clocks

drill the rivets out and no matter how careful you are, it will look like ****....JB weld it back on, let it sit overnight....even if you have to tear it apart again, you can grind out the epoxy.....there may also be a problem bending the lip of the can back together, NTW, dab a small amount of JB Weld evenly spaced around the circumference of the lip and just let it sit overnight again

...we'll probably be in OC next weekend so stay in touch

AND a very public thank you for lending me your AN wrenches and vise jaws ;worship geez, those damn things are REALLY expensive
