What are you guys running for tires? I bought my '89 C4 last August and put it away two months later. The rears need to be replaced so the shopping starts now. (275/40ZR17 Kumhos on it now, bit noisy and flat spot easily) Here in Canada, BF Goodrich G-Force will cost me about $1000 installed at Costo. Most other comparable tires run about the same. Trouble is, these seem to more suited for track days and real high G cornering. Well, my old Vette is in near perfect condition, so it won't see any track days and only the occasional spirited drive. I'm looking for longer wearing and smooth GT type tire. Any recommendations?

Kindest regards...

Paul

Goodyear F1 GS-D3 is the best choice for the needs you have.

Problem is, I doubt you're going find them as cheap as you can by the Goodriches installed at Costco.

I run the F1 GS-D3 on two of my vettes along with my Camaro and, over the years, I have found that tire to have good tread life, relatively low noise, good dry traction and great wet traction.

Keep away from the Firehawks. They have a NYLON plies and when they sit overnight they flatspot terribly. The car will thump down the road like the tires were square for about 5-10 miles. Nylon didn't work for Mickey Thompson L60/15's back in 1969 and nylon doesn't work today.

I put Kumho's on my 88 last year and couldn't be happier. The Dunlops that were on it rode hard and were always flatspotted. Got the Kumho's from Tire Rack for about $575 and $60 at the dealer to install and balance.

I had Falken tires on my 94. They were OK. If they sat a week or more they'd flat spot a little, but they came out of it rather quickly. I put 20k on them and they still had half the tread on them when I traded it for the 01.

Hummmm....That's more the price range I'm looking for. My kumho tires are grippy as hell but flatspotted after being on a transporter for four days, reefed down pretty good so it should not come as no surprise I guess. They came back to round after about ten miles, but damn near shook the car apart!
Thanks Ron.
