Top speed of an LT1 is 170mph

With stock gears you cannot top end in 4th because you will redline. You cannot top end in 6th because of the rpm drop off. With that in mind I would not personally call 5th an over drive gear. In MHO of course.

4th gear is 1 to 1 5th is an overdrive, just look at the specs.

WOW - I can tell by comments made in this thread those who have and haven't driven their Vettes north of 150, stock C4/C5 Vettes cannot/do not make high speed runs in 6th gear! :w

If you want to get technical, then I guess 5th is an overdrive gear. However, it is also the top speed gear. 6th gear is too long to do a high speed run. It is however great for crusing down the interstate at 70+mph!
