I am feeling a clunk when I put it in gear, (auto) it's smooth going into reverse but there is a good clunk when it goes into drive.

Anybody have any suggestions, I have not changed the fluid in the tranny and I'm wondering if this would help and does anybody have fluid recomendations.

Hellloooooooooo out there. Anybody there....

Should I stick with the GM fluid or is there something better.

If you're feeling a clunk when you put it in gear, I'd have to lean more towards a worn u-joint or tranny mount than a tranny problem.

I've been told, by bro-in-law mechanic who has worked at a tranny shop, that he feels tranny shops are a rip-off. He has seen many instances where people bring in older cars for tranny service and they last for a short time and then fail completely. He says it has something to do about the old fluid being suddenly changed to different viscosity fluid.

This is not to say that tranny shops cannot be beneficial, this was just his opinion. I think he feels that trannys should have their fluid exchanged regularly and persons who do not or have an 'ignored' tranny, and bring it to tranny shops for 'the works' usually wind up losing their transmissions.
