Just got my Trick Flows and I can't hardly stand the wait. My block is still at the machine shop. What the hell are those guys doing down there?

I got my engine bay all cleaned up and painted fresh waiting for that new motor. Cleaned up my wire harnesses and replaced a lot of the old plastic wire loom covers. Looks really good except that there's an empty hole where the 350 goes.

Oh well, guess I'll go look at those heads again.:D

Boy do I know that feeling! I have had my engine compartment ready for a new toy for about 2 months. I have the heads on the way thanks to 1unsafe 1 in Alaska and the block is soon to follow. I'm still looking at probably a year before I start it for the first time, but when I do-----OH BOY!!!!!!!!!!1

Art,
Your in Azle huh? I grew up in (and have family) Boyd/Bridgeport. I have an Aunt that owns travel business in Azle. Jim

Funny, I nearly moved to Lakeside, not too far from Azle. My daughter used to live outside of Azle off Rt. 99. Nice country there.

Oh BTW, I know I couldn't wait a year before I start her up. That is too much to ask... At least for me.:)

This is funny! I'm in California right now, working. I also am originaly from Illinois! Mine's a slow process. I travel around the world working on oilfield eqip. and am only home for brief periods of time between trips. Each time I come home I'll order some more parts and the next time I'll put them on the car. Even though it'll take me a long time, I'll have a brand new 30 year old car when it's done.

What is the shop doing to the motor?

I decided that instead of building, I'd just buy a crate motor. :L

The shop is building the short block assembly.

Allign boring the mains

Resurface the block deck

Cylinders bores .030 over

New high compression pistons

Crane Cam 210/216 @ .50 & .400/.454 lift

Double roller timing set

Melling Hi volume oil pump

Now that I'm into this thing, I could have gotten off cheaper with a crate motor. But I can pay-out as I go along this way.

Now I'm wondering, should I paint the block the factory black paint? Or maybe the retro Chevy orange? Or possibly red? Can't decide.

That's why I'm going with the crate motor. At first, it seems that the crate motor costs so much more because you pay for the whole crate motor. But if you do it yourself, your're likely to do things in stages and it might give the impression that it's not costing as much but it really is! :L

I say paint the block whatever color you want. Personally, I don't like the Chevy orange in a C4 or later Corvette, I think that's a "muscle car" look like the C3 or the old Camaro's or Chavelle's that look good with orange.

I would stay with the stock block color and do up the valve covers etc to dress it.
