OK I've dealt with this for a couple of summers, now its climbed on my 'to-do' list. My turn signal cancellation cam seems to be off. If I had to guess I would say ~45 degrees. When you push down (turn left) when going perfectly straight you can feel that you are right on top of the canceller. When you go right, the wheel never turns back far enough to cancell. The wheel is straight and the car goes straight down the road so I cant figure it out. I have had this on cars that were SEVERELY out of alignment but this doesn;t appear to be the case. What are the thoughts from the eperts? Cam installed incorrectly? The linkage installed incorrectly? It appears that even if the linkage was the case it could only be 180 degrees, not less, which wouldnt cause problems. . . .Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. . . .

Inside the column, there is a plastic ring called the Turn Signal Cancelation Cam. It's possible that this part is either broken or incorrectly installed.

It's not possible to install the part incorrectly. Therefore, it's probable that one or more of the "ears" (there are 3 of them) on this cam are broken off and you're missing the first one in line which should cancel the turn signal and, thus, going to the next one in line. That would explain the 90 (actually, it would be 120 degrees if I'm correct) degree error.

These plastic parts get really brittle in their old age and can break quite easily.

Given proper tools, it's not a hard fix if you can get the part.

Bummer. I ripped it apart - replaced the part even though everything looked AOK. Same condition exists. Here is my thought: Could the cam be 180 degrees off? Mine had the two nubs pointing down, although it appears to be able to go in either way. In Eckler's ad for this part they are pointing up. Anyone know which way they are sposed to face?

The picture you attached is the way it should look when installed.

Take to alignment shop. Center steering wheel. Set toe. Fixed.

Fixed! 85vette was right - although I didn't know this until after I rolled the dice and installed everything in the mirror image. So here is the lesson I learned: These freakin cars are hard enough to work on without some yahoo putting it together incorrectly. Alignment off? No. Signal cam broke? No. Previous owner incompetent? Yes.

I guess when I said it couldn't be installed improperly, I should have said it can't be installed out of kilter with the shaft due to the shape of the hole. I never in my wildest dreams thought someone would install it upsidedown. It's a wonder it worked at all.

Congratulations.:beer
