Turn Signal Problems

I have a 2000 2-dr coupe. Turn signals sometimes do not operate. Saw the thread about pushing the hazard light. This works most of the time, but sometimes difficult to get the hazard lights to come on. Sounds like I have to remove the top dash pad to replace the hazard switch. How difficult is this? How expensive if I take it to a dealer?

I had mine replaced by dealer (under warranty). Charges were $177 labor and $29.58 for the hazzard switch.

Involves pulling the stereo out far enough to get at the back of the relay.......I'll look for a thread, can't remember where I read it but it sounds relatively easy....

Problem continued to get worse. Finally had the hazard switch replaced by my local Chevy Dealer. $32.95 for the part and $240 labor.
At least it works now!

While I have heard of it done this way, I have also seen alot of plastic housings where the switch goes in being cracked also. Then, you push the switch and its swallowed by the dash.
IMO, just not worth chancing, would much rather take off the pad, because that pad is big money.

My problem I think is the turn/head lamp/cruise control switch lever itself I think. My turn signals quit on occassion too though. But now the heal lamps will open; and not come on and neither does the tail lgts and liscense plate lgt. For a while before they quit all together I had to keep turning the switch on 4 or 5 times sometimes before they final would come on. Then they would come on 10 times in a row but maybe the next time I went to drive it at night they would not come on again. I now have it set up on the "twlight mode on the DIC but I would rather not have to do this. Do you think the problem is in the switch/lever itself or not? Your expertise would be very much appreicated.

I would say you may be right, but I would also look at the connector at the base of the steering column that all the wires go into.
I have seen terminal connection problems there as well.
Please also post the codes, if any, in the BCM.

Thank you c4c5c6specialist, you da MAN! I will check the terminals first, but the reason I assumed it was the switch is because at one time it would come on and work everytime, then it progressively got to where they wouldn't come on at all. The part that confuses me is why would the head lamp doors open if the switch is bad; but so does the cruise control too. I should be able to service this switch lever without removing the steering wheel should I?

Hi there,
No, you will have to remove the steering wheel.
That means disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 15 mins before attempting to change the switch.
This will give the air bag system time to power down.
