Under Hood Paint Touch-up

Has anyone ever painted or touched up the black paint under the hood? I need to paint mine from the everyday chips and debris that accumilates over the season. Is it just a FLAT BLACK or a semi gloss? I also have a blanket that does a good job, but I want to do the edges so they look like new. Nothing's worse than having a real clean and gleaming mill when the hoods up and looks nasty.:ugh What do you guys use?

You can touch it up but its probably wont match perfect.There are so many degrees of semi gloss black it would be almost impossible to get the right one.I usually use a black that is sold by GM just for that but sometime its hard to get.Your other option is to get some Underhood Black from eastwood.I also use alot of that on muscle cars .

Thanks PD. With the blanket on most of the underside, matching it won't be a problem I guess. Close is still better than gross. I just wanted to get it as "factory" as possible without looking tacky.

Krylon used to make a paint in a spray can called "semi flat" it is the closest thing I have ever seen to the frame or underhood black used by GM. It is a much better match than a semi gloss. I have used it extensively in underhood restorations. If they still make it, it should be an excellent match.

I used the Kylon Flat Black on mine and it looks like it just came off the showroom. Matched great and looks like new

I use rustolem satin black #777... and it matches up perfectly with factory paint.... get it at Home Depot for about $4.00 or less per spray can... Just make sure you clean all the oil off first
