I have a 78 I am restoring. I am currently replacing all interior carpet. After removing the compartment doors and rear carpet I find myself looking at the unfinished compartment holes tat contain the battery and the jack( one on each side). Are they supposed to be painted a certain color? It looks like they were sprayed silver originally but black overspay is over part of it as well.

Looking for restore advice.

Thanks

There is supposed to be a storage tray above the jack. The tray I have simply drops down into the compartment and is easily removed to access the jack. The tray is made of cardboard and is covered in a black 'felt like' material. It is made of the same material and color as the center tray compartment.

I am unsure of the proper GM paint for the battery compartment.

I have the same both purchased recently but you have to admit, once you remove the drop in peice it looks kinda bad . . . .

... just checked, my battery compartment is painted in flat black.

Later... Brian

My 74 looks like gray unpainted fiberglass . . . .
