I put an aftermarket exhaust system (billy boat Rt.66) on my 08 LS3. The problem is I sometime get this droaning sound at low RPM's when cruising. It actually is uncomfortable to my ears and can be rather load inside the car. Does anyone know why it makes that sound and if there's a fix.
Thanks

Is there something I can do to minimze it?
Yes, replace them with a corsa brand system.I had the tiger shark system on my C5 and it was awesome. great sound at idle, Space shuttle at wot and zero drone at cruise. I mean zero, it was awesome. I plan on putting them on my 07 ZO6 this summer

Remove the Billy Boat exhaust. With some aftermarket exhausts--such as the B&B--there is no fix.

Systems which have little or no drone:
The optional OE RPO NPP system
Flowmaster
Corsa

Hib,

I'm interested in the Flowmaster for my 08'. Do you have any experience with this system on an A6 equipped vette?

Thanks,
chris

Not on a C6 with auto.

I did cover the installation and testing of a Flowmaster exhaust on a C6 manual a couple years ago for an article in "Corvette Enthusiast" magazine. The installation was fairly easy for the DIY, provided you can get the car up on jack stands to do the work.

The sound was typically Flowmaster but perhaps just a little more subdued at high rpm than some people shopping aftermarket exhausts would like, but for me it was just right. If I had a C6, that'd be the exhaust I'd buy.

I have Flowmaster exhausts on my C3, my C4, my Camaro and my old Malibu. My Wife, the Fairest Sandra the Red, has one on her 82 CE and her HHR. On my C5, I kept the stock exhaust because it's titanium from the rear axle back--I prefer the lighter weight and it sounds good as is. If my C5 was not a Z06, I'd have put a Flowmaster exhaust on that car, too.

Above all else, the reasons I like Flowmaster are 1) the sound and 2) that Flowmaster exhausts are typically a pretty good value.

Thanks Hib, I appreciate your knowledge and experience.

Other than replacement, you'll have to drive in higher RPM ranges than 2000.
With your engine spinning faster, you can expect:

1. Premature engine wear

2. Engine heat issues

3. Add'l fuel use

4. Add'l oil use

5. Premature engine failure

It doesn't make sense to have an engine work harder that necessary to accomplish the same work, now does it?

Switching out your stock exhaust for an aftermarket version can introduce some unintended consequences for the buyer, such as the sound which you're experiencing.

I listened to a bunch of different exhausts in person and on the web before deciding on my GHLs (which I love!)

Bottom line: to each his or her own. What is good for one person may not be for another.

If you find that you really dislike the exhaust sound you have, you have a couple of different options: decide you like it enough to keep it; remove it, reinstall the stock version and resell the aftermarkets to another 'Vette owner via the various club, Corvette and other forums out there; resell the aftermarkets and get some GHLs. :D

Best of luck with your decision! :w
