Use Silicone with Rubber Valve Cover gaskets?

Hi, got a stock 350 in a 74 vette. Got a pair of rubber valve cover gaskets. (If you bend them they stay in place like there's a metal strip in between). Anyway, do these go on dry or do you use silocone gasket material with them? Thanks.

You'll get all kinds of answers for this one. I stick gaskets to the rocker covers with 3M weatherstrip adhesive, let that dry and then install them. Makes installation easier since the gaskets don't move around. Make sure the rails on your covers are flat- it's easy to tighten them too much and distort the cover at the bolt holes. Instant leak.

The directions say to install them dry without any silicone or adhesive. Some of us have done both with success.

What most of the forum doesn`t realize or just know that silicone by itself is a gasket. Many think is used like an adhesive....Just follow the above replys as its the best way...plus you can reuse them [gaskets] if necessary.....
