News: Valet crashes Corvette during joy ride

Thats true, but it was actually 155. Flip overs was not the real reason;LOL, it was the tire ratings. My 01 Cobra shut off at 155.
I believe that's 100% correct. A car cannot leave the factory in which it can go faster than the tires that it leaves with. In other words, the speed rating on the factory-decided tire will determine the factory-allowed top speed (should the car naturally have the ability to go at least that fast). That's why most european cars are governed at 155 mph.

Rydell Chevrolet is owned by GM. You know they are not going to be happy about this one. Looks like someone just lost their job. They have four dealerships in the valley area.

Why 155

That's why most european cars are governed at 155 mph.

Not really. IIRC, the 155 mph speed limit started as an agreement between the German auto manufacturers and the German government to set that as a limit. Government was getting antsy about the top speed of the big Mercedes and BMWs and the ability of the average driver to drive at those speeds. So they came to an informal agreement. Then the manufacturers put tires with a top speed of 155 or so on the cars. So an evolutionary process but it didn't start with the tires.
