When I bought my 89 11 years ago one of the first things I did was buy a VATS bypass from Mid America it was about 20 bucks.

Since then I had the ignition switch go bad so I replaced it with a regular tumbler NO VATS the switch with 2 keys was $29.95 easy to install and no more VATS.

If you don't want to build your own wiring there is a plug and play jumper available from most Corvette catalogs ie. Ecklers, Corvette Central, etc. You will need the key resistance number.

Someone else agrees

Thanks again Oz for the valuable info. After all the conversations I've had with other C4 owners I knew I wasn't the only member of the VATS SUCKS Club. The VS.com site looks like it has the most valuable info.

This cracks me up !
VATS is the ONLY reason that most c-4's are still in their owners driveway.
I've been saved by the VATS system, and a buddy saved 3 times. Car thiefs would LOVE a nice vette....but VATs stops them 99% of the time. All it requires is normal maint like any other part of the car. Do people cry TIRES SUCK and try to delete THOSE when they have a flat?
I think NOT.

What maint would that be?

My car is protected by SMITH & WESSON I DON'T NEED VATS
Seriously it all depends on how your car is used and where you live.
My car is in a locked garage other than when I go to a car show and then I'm sitting their behind it so I have no need for something that may leave me stranded with a no start problem.

I had a friend that went to Corvette fun fest and his would not start it was on a Saturday dealer was closed.

He had to stay in motel till they could tow it to Chevrolet dealer on monday and repair the vats system.
Lost a day of work plus motel & tow bill and several hundred to do the repair I sure don't need that.

If for reliability purposes you feel the need to delete VATS ; there are still the old school ways for preventing a car from starting.
A hidden cutoff switch on the fuel pump wire is enough to encourage a thief to look at another car.A ground on the coil wire will do the same job
For non smokers a push button switch mounted in the base of the cig lighter works well and easily accessed without being obvious to outsiders.
Unless you are parked in a dark alley , a thief doesn't have enough time to trouble shoot and rewire car; they want to rip the lock out , hot wire the ign and drive off

:boogie:boogie:boogie:boogie WOW Boomer!!!

No I don't cry about flat tires. But I don't put up with tires that go flat constantly because of poor design. My car is maintained to the nth degree as have all my C4's been in the past. And they too had VATS problems.

Hey Boomer, get off that soap box. The VATS system was simply a crap design effort from GM. ;LOL;LOL;LOL;LOL
