I have a question. Does anyone know if the front fiberglass leaf spring on the Vette Brake system is the same spring used on the later Corvettes that it's patterned after or is it a different spring?

I cant answer that question,But I can put in my 2 cents.

When I originally purchased my car it had an aftermarket rear and front composite spring with no coils and aluminum upper and lower controll arms. Every one who owned a midyear and drove mine alway complemented on how well my car handeled and behaved,I should actually say they RAVED about it.I just alway felt they were being polite.Needless to say I removed every thing that was not factory correct and put it the way the general had built it.

Let me tell you After the new suspention was in and I took if for a ride I thought the wheels were falling off or sumthin.I limped back into the shop and rechecked everything nothing was wrong.I had if flatbedded to the alighnment shop thinking that was the problem after the alignment I drove it home and realized that it what it was supposed to feel like.Now I am used to the car and its charector but those first couple of ride's were strange. If I some how did not get posesed by the factory correct sickness I would have reinstalled everthing I had removed .Again the cars handeling was night and day different and the after market one was much better by far then whats in it now.

Good Luck

Thanks IH;
I plan on making those changes as soon as my new [to me] baby gets home. I've heard there was some improvement and weight savings but I wasn't aware that it was that drastic! Thanks for that info.

Do still have the aftermarket suspension pieces you took off of your mid-year and would you be interested in selling them?

Did your car come out of Indiana? I was buying some parts from a guy that was telling me he sold a car a few years ago that had the suspension that you describe.
Thanks

My take off parts are GONE I did the work at my fatherinlaws shop and left all the material at his shop and it was thrown out.I am sorry I did promise this materail to a fellow member of the CF forum and when he contacted me for the parts I went to pick it up and it was gone nobodys fault but my own.

As for the fellow from indiana
My car came out of texas in 90 or 91 from a so called restoration shop/dealer no history prior to that.My car definatley was done on in the earley 90's a fellow in my area brought it to
New York,sold to a fellow in conn who never in drove the car except for pulling it off a trailer.When I purchased my car it was painted resale red,and had a bunch of aftermarket stuff on it ,headers,intake,carb,you name it it had it.I have been restoring it to NCRS judging standard since I have purchased it.(I am doing that for myself not anybody else) I enjoy building the car that way and thinks it great that between the aim manual and the judging manual I am able to go back in time and recreate this car as the factory did.

As you can tell I am definatley PRO NCRS.

Any how ask the fellow when he remembers the car being around in indeana and if he has a vin or any thing else that may allow me to determin it was my car You know any lead is a good one and I have hired a PI to investagate the cars history and have not had any sucsses so far.

00fxd, I don't know if the two are alike, but I have the entire vette brakes setup on my '63. Had it installed after the wreck. What a huge difference. Best money I spent on the car. The girlfriend will actually go for long rides in it now. Uhh..maybe that isn't a good thing.:D

I would like to see a side by side test of a midyear with that suspension and a c-5. I think a lot of people would be surprised, including the c-5. Classic

Yes Classic, I think we're talking about the same thing altho I think I'm going to Install just the front system and only go with a rear fibre glass leaf with the smart struts. I'm not sure I need/want all that adjustability. I'll just end up confusing myself. Thanks for your input. It made a big diference? Thats what I'm looking for is to hear from people who have owned and driven them before and after. Glad the girl friend likes it too!
