Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

Well I'm back & wrenchin on the 64

Progress

Needle paint found, clock has been keeping time for 36 hrs and is still in time...
Found the correct recliner lever handles NOS Black.
Took Mutley to work today for a run N bath...
The car really REALLY needs a 5 speed even with 3.08's in the tail....

Now to find a steering wheel with a smaller OD than 12 " or a tilt so I get in & out of the car easier

Western after market knock off's

COOL... so the spinners & hubs arrived.. wheels are on the way...
I'm doing my research BEFORE I even think about mounting these bad boys on....
There is so much bad press on these probably due to bad installs.. I want to make 398.625% sure I don't do it WRONG!

So I found this
http://www.lbfun.com/warehouse/tech_info/Wheels & Tires/KOwheel.pdf

And I have my trusty shop manual...

I spent some time polishing up the chrome on the spinners and found thread direction
BUT I didn't find LH or RH on the hub adaptors , but I didn't look that hard, yet.

I'm missing the lock pins.. so I'll have to order that..Some have suggested cold roll pins... thought's, dimensions ?
Is there anything " magical " about the lug nuts? I see there are the ones for the steel wheels & ones for the KO's that seem a tad longer?!?

Please chime in....

In other news, Mutley went for a ride, got a bath and as an extra treat a top down ride home.....

SWEET!

Mike

Wiring question

So I'm looking for the courtsey light in the convertible top storage area....
I can't find it...
I thought I would look on the schematic
the colors are OR ( orange ) and N what fracking color starts with a N ?
None? Black ( no they spec black )

WTH ?

HELP ( anyone got a pix of the CORRECT location )??

Mike

"N" could stand for Neutral. or Tan :w

Nope

" T " is tan......

In the 63 shop manual schematic the 2 wires are OR and N
In the 64 suppliment the 2 wires are B/OR and B ( Black/Orange & Black )
In the Lectric limited 64 laminated schematic B/OR and B
On the e bay COLOR wiring diagram ( diagram 6 ) B/OR and B

Well enough is enough....
The secret lamp is behind the lip ( part of the main body tub ) centerline...
So pop the vert storage hatch feel around center... you'll hit it.... it's just an exposed socket
( similar to the kick panel lights ) H90 bulb AKA #90... and mine looked factory... 40 + years O crud came out as I unplugged it...

Plopped a new bulb in and By gum... It WORKED!

Oh yeah... Orange and WHITE ( which might make sence )

My car was built in LATE 63... In electrical world Neutral= white
and the mystery wire is ground... maybe the general ran outta black 18 ga wire LOL

Could also be a typo, because the "N" is right next to the "B" on the keyboard.......;shrug

Andy

I don't think when the 1963-4 shop manuals and schematics specifically typed, I believe they were drafted ( at the time ) .....
The off to the printers for proofs.....All I gotta say.. is WHO GOOFED,, I GOTTA KNOW !

LOL

Major F up

So first trip to work yesterday with the KO'S on board... to work OK... Coming home ,not so much....
I heard a weird noise coming from back right... pulled over everything SEEMED fine... but there was black goo on the rim...

Upon close inspection the chrome cap was not glued on properly and the goo was the RTV that escaped when it was curing...

So back to the tire store this AM....
PICKED UP THE CAR @ 5:30 ... all seemed well...

As I'm driving home I hear a TINK .. tink ta tink tink... pull in the driveway and the little cap over the hub was GONE...
and the pin was 1/2 way out ( gee no wonder the cap didn't hold ) ... so I tried to gently pull the pinout...SNAP..
GRRRRRR

I called the shop & spoke with my mechanic.. he talked to the tire guy.. and said they didn't reglue it, they did something with a BIG O ring to stop the rattles ( cause they couldn't get the pin out)....This is when I LOST IT and bitched a bluestreak, they said order the new parts & would make it right..

So now, ( before I drive it again ) do I drill out the 1/2 pin ( it's a soft aluminum one ) ...cause there's nuttin to grab on....

HELP!

I am very sorry to hear about your troubles with the tire shop.

Have run into this same issue with some of the folks I deal with.

I always look for a shop and/or vendor who has a TELEPHONE. And is not afraid to use the darn thing!

Sometimes making a simple call to the customer can go a long way preventing these type of things from happening.
