What is a "vert"?

I have been around and owned Vettes for 25 years. What the *$(@#)$ is a "vert"? Never heard of this terms before. Am I the only one........? It is used all over this site. Help!

Edmond - I think that spyder thing originated with the Italian sports cars and spread out into other brands. On the other hand, I left the top down on my "vert" the other night. When I got in it the next morning there was a big ole "spyder" on the passenger seat.

I noticed that about Lambo's and Mitsubishi's. They call them spyders.
 
Wasn't the vette convertable originally called a roadster?
 
Yes it was, and still is in this part of the country.
