Here is a picture of a hose of some sort in my car. :confused The stuff I think is heat shielding is wearing off. Do I need a new hose, new shielding, or is everything just fine?

Thanks

The good news is that heat shield is now easy to replace. Originally you had to take the pipe off and slide a new one on the end. This apparently was part of GM's plan to rape you at the service center. Eventually one was developed with velcro that goes on easily!:upthumbs

Exactly. Mid-America has it. I imagine other vette supply houses would too.

Anyone know what torque the bolts for the EGR pipe get torqued to?

And is there anything special about bolting that little vacuum line that goes beside the EGR pipe? I took that off then bolted it back on, and the metal pipe started spinning.

Hi, when I saw mine was wearing I just wrapped some ordinary kitchen foil around it. Works fine. Roger.

The infill is still there it's only the aluminium that wears and 4 layers of foil are quite adequate.

I need to replace mine as it is tearing apart and is all black looking for some reason. Are these all the same from the different Vette venders? I'd like to get one that already has the EGR sensor hole cut. I'm looking at going with Corvette Central as I can pick up some screws while I'm at it.

Its funny that you mention that fix though...saw aluminum foil "fix" at a car show the other day and in the short time we were by that car people were pointing and laughing it looked so silly. I guess if you do it well it may look good.
Some header tape would probably look better but I'd just pony up the $25 for a new good looking one that will last10-14 years:eyerole

I ended up getting one from Mid America. I don't know if that is a good one.

I was gonna get one from Corvette Central, as theirs is made by DEI. But it didn't have the sensor hole cut out, so I just went with Mid America.

Some people are obviously very easily amused. Aluminium foil put on carefully looks just the same as the original and does the job as well if not better. A "custom made" cladding could be made to look much better than the original.

Is that wire for the EGR switch supposed to unscrew? I had noticed before I removed the pipe that the wire was loose. I removed the pipe and tried to unscrew the switch, but that didn't happen.

I ended up finishing unscrewing the wire.

And is there anything special about screwing in that heater vacuum line the goes right in beside the EGR pipe?
