I´m about to change the powersteering fluid and I´m not sure what kind of oil to use. Is it okey with dexron 3 (auto transmission oil)? Used that in my camaros and trans am and it worked well but the oil in the corvette looks different.

I think it is mainly personal preference. You can buy the stuff straight from GM or buy what you want from autozone. I think the correct stuff is synthetic fluid. When I bought mine it was in a gold bottle, and it might have been mobile. Not sure, I will check the garage when I get home.

Here's what my shop manual has to say about it (1987)....

"NOTICE: Some people still believe you can use Automatic Transmission fluid in Power Steering Systems. It is just not true. Automatic transmission fluid is not compatible with the seals and hoses used in the power steering system. Using Dextron II in the system can cause fluid seepage past the seals. Use only power steering fluid #1050017 or equivilent."

To me, that pretty much settles it.

I use valvoline synpower power steering fluid and I don't have the dreaded C4 morning power steering groan even on the mornings when its well below zero.
