What to do with sound in my Vette

Okay, thanks everybody. Once I get the manuals I'll learn the wiring and specs of the sound system and area and all that is needed and then I'll start planning out the sound system and how and what I'll put in her.

Thanks! :D

Stallion--
I agree with the pack about putting in a decent stereo system. I have plans for a complete system for my '78 that would totally rock. It would involve some pretty hefty modification though. The headunit I just bought it a Kenwood Excelon (Crutchfield was running a sweet deal last week where you got the Sirrius satellite system and antenna for free!) I wasn't going to get as crafty as Chris suggested with the faux-face, but that is a good idea. Next, I planned to install 2 5 1/4" component speakers in each door where the map pocket is and just leave the dash 4x6 alone. The bottom half of the door would then be recarpeted for a stealth effect. In the rear, I planned a box that held two 8" subs with a suspended box that came of the rear wall. The box was designed in such as way that I could still place my t-tops in the car and still use the luggage shade that pulls from the rear! Top that off with a decent amp and maybe even a Kenwood Music KEG, and you have a pretty killer sound system! You won't win stereo competitions, but who cares? Good luck with whatever you decide!

Thanks a lot, Bryan. Sounds like you have a hot ride there, too! ;)

Those sound modifications you list sound very nice but complicated. Like I said, what I'm going to do is, of course, put in a new head unit and I think I'm going to stray away from the back boxes for the rear sound and just put in replacement speakers where our stock speakers really are.

Hey man, it's your ride, do it however you want! By the way, they do make 6x9 boxes that give the speakerssome punch, and I think one of the major vendors (Mid-America or Eckler's) sells a "boom-box" preformed to the rear of the C3 that doesn't take up too much room. My car didn't come with rear speakers from the factory (I don't think), and the original owner put in some crappy Jensen speakers. I took those out when I redid the carpeting. Now I just have two holes where speakers SHOULD go. I have the grilles, but they need to be painted. I have put further plans on hold as I am thinking of selling my car and starting over with an early C3 convertible. Then I will probably adapt the plans to whatever car I end up with. Again, good luck in whatever you decide!
