What's In a Name?

What do you think they should name the "Blue Devil" Corvette?

What about LS-7?

This fits the current pattern from C5 (LS1/LS6) to C6 (LS2/LS-7).

Plus, it's the only famous name that was never produced. The closest it's seen to production is in the 1970 brochure/owners manual/assembly manual, and a few test cars i believe.

Since it never went into production the first time, 36 years late is better than never! :L

Another interesting point is how in the late 60's the famous Vettes (ZL1, L88) are known by the engine RPO. The modern Z06 has an LS6, however it is not known by that name. So I guess the engine could be an LS-7 and it could still be known by a different name (the RPO for the "blue devil" package itself)?

Interesting poll results. Not one person has picked Z06. :L

And only one vote for the ZR-1 also... I personally would like to see the GS make a comeback. Perhaps not the same paint job, but the concept behind the GS, is due for a revival. A huge honkin engine in a sub 3000lb car...

Seems to be a choice of setting a tradition. Either continue using monikers of prior "C's" or a derivative, ala ZL-2. A C-6, L-88 would describe the car and set a naming tradition. The SS, GS, /R is not only tired, but about as creative as the rice makers, who copy US! Might just as well call it a Lambo.

While the established labels connote something, a creative label denotes a product that sets a new standard for the globe. I prefer the latter and almost gag at the *****killer label. Such a label narrows the target too much and belittles the marque as I understand it. My Vette and I have nothing to prove to anyone, but I'll gladly sit and chat amicably to any with polite interest, knowing full well its capabilities.

I am torn between the confusion of the 'alphabet soup' and new and creative, while communicating the world car killer aspect. ZL is the closest, for me, but it has to make sense. Does ZL mean aluminum, big block or both, aside from meaning nothing meaner?

Either way, it has to satisfy us (the established Vette community) while capturing the sights of a new generation. Hell, I'm a inginouer, not a marketeer! :)

All the European exotics have names in their native tongues. We should find an American sounding name for the Blue Devil. How do you say Blue Devil in American? :L

I don't like using old names. Those badges were unique to their cars and I think using the name again is a marketing attempt to lure customers in with a name instead of a product.

Stingray!!!!!!!!

Can you guys imagine!?! It has instant recognition.

Can you imagine the comparisons!?

3) Dodge Viper R/T 10
2) Ford GT
1) Chevrolet Corvette STINGRAY

hell yeah. hell yeah. Yes yes, I know the stingray was the not equivalent of the L-88 or ZR-1. I love the L-88, but the only people who are hardcore vette people (like us) are going to get it. But if you see a 650HP STINGRAY coming down the road, it will strike fear into the hearts of every Porsche/GT/Viper/Ferrari driver they come across.

Yeah, sounds cool. However, the Stingray or Sting Ray (depending on the year vette), was more inline with the C3's because that entire generation was base on the Mako Shark body styling. Shark, Stingray...ya know. Plus, if GM was to use a name or designation that's already been used, the "Stingray" name was never used to denote a performance upgrade from the base model...

I dont really think that matters though. What matters is its out of the corvettes past, and sounds bad ass. I think it would work perfectly.

they should call it the bin laden option

Yeah, and you'd also apparently be invisible to any type of law enforcement! If our top brass and thier satellites can't find 'em, I sure wouldn't worry about a towny 5-0!

I don't like the idea of re-using the old monikers. Some of those equate to the best of the era. I'd like to see it stay that way. I have an LS-6 coupe, and the thought of that name being used on a small block is insulting.

The idea of Hemi being associated with a 5.7 litre engine is sickening to me. For all of us that were of driving age during '65 thru '71, these great monikers were associated with brute big blocks, let's not dilute it any further. I say no to L-88, ZL-1, LS-6, LS-7. Come up with something NEW!
