I'm actually a little relieved in discovering that the leaking that's been going on for a month or two isn't likely my oil as I'd thought, but more likely has to do with my hydraulic clutch system. Driving home last week, quite suddenly, I could push the pedal to the floor with no effect. I managed to jam it into 2nd gear and limp it back to the driveway (only had to run one light!) but now things are even weirder. My initial investigation confimed my expectation in that the fluid level in the reservoir was at the point where the system was sucking air instead of fluid. So, after topping it off again with dot 3 brake fluid as recommended, now we have a new problem. I can push the pedal about half way down and then it stops completely. Actually, I just went out and tried again so that I could see if any actuation of the clutch occurs (put the car in gear and tried to roll it). It doesn't, however just now I could pretty much get the pedal to the floor again without much resistance till the very end.
Anyway, to summarize- we had a clutch fluid leak somewhere, refilled the reservoir, and now have some mysterious issues that I'm wondering if I should blame the master or slave cylinder for. Any advice appreciated!
