Whats Your Best Cleaner?

The a$$ end of my baby is getting REAL dirty and its the kinda dirt that doesnt want to come off. I tried a few things and they stripped the paint a bit and didnt clean. Ive done a search but nothing really pertained to the kind of soot and dirt that Im talking about. You know the stuff just above the tailpipe outlets, the black soot/tar looking stuff. My whole tail piece is looking like eggnog instead of bright white like the rest.

I'd check with Detailing Dude over in the Car Care section of the forums. He likely won't recommend a specific brand product, but he can tell you what your problem is and how to correct it...

Mineral Spirits and a soft cloth might work--will not harm the paint--try a small spot below the bumpers if you are at all worried. That exhaust sometimes seems like it almost gets etched in the paint. Good Luck

You may want to try something called Goof Off. It comes in either spray or liquid. I had some severe black soot above my exhaust tips (due to a broken valve spring) which loaded my car up like crazy. I used Goof Off on the paint (Red) below my rear bumpers and it removed all the black soot. After cleaning, I then waxed the area real good. Just make sure you try it out in an inconspicuous spot first, just to make sure you don't harm the paint/finish. I have used this product on my race cars too when removing vinyl decal/sponsor graphic adhesive. Stuff works great and can be bought for a couple bucks at your local hardware store.
