It's down to one of these choices for my 2003 AE. Which one do you like or suggest....

or...

Thank you!

To 89x2:

If that Calloway "Honker" is so much better than "comp A and comp B, why do I never see any C5's with it installed?

Blackwing seems to be the unit of "choice", with the K&N dual element "Y" thingy a not so close second.

I am new at this C5 business, so pardon the question if is sounds really dumb.

There is no such thing as a dumb question ;)

re: the Callaway Honker - They just finished up on the design after testing extensively. It was just last month released to the public, that could be a big part why it isn't on every C5 (yet?).
One thing I noticed on some of the C5's Callaway had tested before - it used some of the competitors filter systems, obviously they engineered a better one or it wouldn't be on their cars.

I recently followed this product through the process of engineering, testing and also their emissions certification (the others are not CA. legal) and was impressed with the details involved.

I hope this explanation helps :m

p.s. I recently drove an '03 Z06 with the new Callaway Power Groups I & II installed (and then again w/ Power Group III)- very powerful (compared to other C5's I have driven)

here is a link to the Callaway Cars homepage for addl. info: http://www.callawaycars.com/callaway/testpage/contentpages/PG_summary.htm

Your explanation most definitely helps. Right now, just looking for ways to "tease" a few extra ponies out of my 2004, without messing with the internals any....(yet), heh, heh, heh.

Thanks

Hmmm, it says it is a bolt-in, no modification "cold-air" induction system.

Just where exactly is it getting this "cold air" from on a non Z06 model that does not have the open air scoops like the Z06?

And I love the "up to 18hp" gain figures too.

That would include any gain from .1hp up to and including 17.99hp, wouldn't it, and still not be considered "false and misleading advertising"?

Gee don't I wish I had this delema!!!!!!!!!!!

I like the Blackwing, with the carbon fiber power duct. The blackwing snaps into the factory filter location for a nice install. Also install the cold air vents around the fog lights.

PVC and K&N Filters

You can get a 2-to-1 PVC "T" and then use K&N filters. It made a HUGE difference over the stock one. I think I spent $70 for the filters, rubber couplings, and the PVC.

DONE!

Purchased the Blackwing on sale for $240 (includes the adapter boot).

I just wanted to open up the air flow a little for fun street driving. Thanks for all your suggestions.

You made the right choice!:cool

Update!!!!

Received the Blackwing on Monday so I installed it right away!

Tip # 1 If you try this after driving your vette home, lay a towel across the hot engine. :mad

Spent a half-hour trying to figure out how to make the part go together.

Gave up and looked for help on the Internet and found the answer:

At the top of the Blackwing is a rubber gasket designed for earlier intakes (3.5 in diameter.) Leave it on for 97-99s; remove and replace with the supplied rubber hose section for 2001s and newer cars (4 in diameter.)

Took that 3.5" gasket off the filter and Presto! The Donaldson Instruction sheet gave no information about this gasket; it just said to add the 01+ hose.

The first result from this modification is that I have more power in 6th gear, do not have to downshift as often. Car feels like it has a little more Pep in it, wants to go now.
Will take her to the NC Mountains in a few weeks and get a good test.

I will clean the engine area once she cools down.
