iam in the process of buying a alarm system for my 94 C4 so if any body has any opinions or experences with the purchasing operating or installing a alarm system on your C4 i.d like to hear your opinion. My corvette mech has encouraged me not to install a aftermarket alarm system, he saids that these after market alarm systems are more problems than what there worth. TRUE?
thanks boonie

It's kind of a hassle. Had to disable the PKE system to get it right, it took my local alarm installer 2 days to get it right with the Viper.
Now I've kind of missed the factory alarm (walking up and have the door open feature) and thinking of having him take out the Viper and put it in my other vehicle.
I don't think alarm installers like these car too much to work with in the beginning. Good luck.

I installed an aftermarket Clifford in mine because I wanted the inside perimeter feature. Kind of like a radar inside the car so if ya leave the car with the roof off it will detect someone sticking their hand in there.

I used a crimestoppers unit. Nobody pays much attention to them anymore, but it is nice to lock and un-lock the doors and open the hatch with a remote. Also as you start car, the door lock automatically and unlocks when you turn off the car (all this is programmable). The factory alarm is still working and if I mess up and set it, then unlock with the transmiter HONK, HONK, HONK or as my wife says STUPID, STUPID, STUPID <g>. Installation was rough, all I will say is zip-ties and velcro! Good luck with your project

Viper works for me

I purchased my car used with a viper alarm already installed. The only problem I had was I must lock my door with the viper remote. If I lock the doors with the keys and then unlock them with the Viper remote, the factory alarm will trigger. The solution to this problem is to lock and unlock the doors with the Viper remote.

The viper has the ability to operate three functions of the car. Channel 1 (locks and unlock door) plus arms and disarm the alarm.
Channel 2 (opens the hatch)
Channel 3 (flips on heads lights)

This alarm also has a car jack mode. Giving the right sequence of events, and the mode active. This alarm can detect that someone had taken the car away from you. Once the jacker drives off and is safely away from the owner, the alarm will trigger and disable the car, the siren and will stay on until the owner shut it down.

Great feature.

My background is car electronic...aftermarket is the way to go because you can get the alarm to do all types of neat things.

If anyone need help with car alarm hook-up problems drop me an email.....I am the man with car electronics

I have the same set-up as ReggieD. Don't use my Viper, pain in the butt. The factory keyless is just fine for me, in Canada there is no such thing as car theft or car jacking! Up here, anyway...

I too had the Viper installed after the factory system started getting squirrelly on me. My experience with the Viper has been great. Along with the features already mentioned, you can include auto window up on alarm (to whatever level you choose), auto start for the engine and you can even program it to start the engine every 3 hours and run for 10 minutes.:cool Not sure why you'd do this, but it's available. Lots of extras in the package and it works. Good luck with your choice.:)
