I took my c5 on the sand one time to within 50 ft of the ocean,anyone who knows me,knows my c5 was so low,you could make a fist,and not be able to slide your fist under my car.. :cool

No way, no how, just won't happen! There are those that do, and they criticize those of us that don't, but I just can't see it. I spend too much time keeping the car clean, under, wheels, wells, etc.

'Tis The Season...

For those of you who may be relatively new to the CAC, you have now stumbled onto a seasonal tradition here in the C5 Forums: Remo's annual admonition against driving your C5 in the snow. This is the warning signal for staff that it's time to get the winter meds out. Left to his own devices this time of year, Remo's separation from his Corvette could reach crisis levels that might break the internet.

Remo was uncharacteristically subdued in 2007, but if you read through the full thread, you'll see him begin to go off the tracks the longer the thread goes on.

2006:

I know many of you think I get sort of cranky when winter begins to set in up here in New Engalnd - and you wouldn't be wrong. I also know that in a couple of months the subject of who drives their C5 in snow will eventually raise it's ugly head. So on behalf of all you brave snow driver I decided to contact the Tire Rack to see what they recommended for equipment to drive a C5 successfully through snow. http://www.tirerack.com/snow/WinterP...01&autoModClar=

Well imagine my confusion when they didn't recommend anything. So I called and spoke to one of their reps. He said they really didn't think piloting a Corvette through snow was the brightest thing one might do. Well I was floored. I told him that I've read many testimonials on various Corvette websites from people who regularly drive C5's in the snow. His respose was "yes, and we pray for them everyday".

If memory serves, the video he starts this thread with was originally posted either in 2006 or 2005. So Remo's recycling material. Not that there's anything wrong with that! Recycling is very 'green.'

Hmm. Green. Christmas. Remo. If only.

2005:

Yesterday I was at a restaurant in Nashua, NH where I witnessed the reason you should not drive a Corvette in a snowstorm. The restaurant sits on hill and the parking lot has a sharp decline. I observed a C5 come into the lot (headed downhill) and make an attempt to turn hard right and park. The car did a slow spin and then slid off the end of the paved parking area. Within a minute another C5 showed up. At this point the two guys and their dates are all out of the the cars trying to figure out what to do about Corvette #1 in the weeds.

When I came out of the restaurant Corvette #2 driver and I pushed Corvette #1 while the owner rocked it back onto the pavement. Both drivers decided to go to another restaurant that had a "level" parking area. This ment that both Corvettes now had to drive up hill to exit the lot. When my wife and I left both Corvettes were still struggling to get to the exit at the top of the driveway. There's a lesson here someplace.

NOTE: While helping these guys, one of their girl friends noticed I had a Corvette logo on my jacket. She said "oh where's yours"? Unbelievable!

Now, apparently our search feature won't go back more than five years. But I did find this thread from the tail end of the winter of 2004/05:

Dateline - New England - 28 February 2005

New England weather forcast. Snow begins this afternoon, continuing through the night into mid day Tuesday March 1st. Anticipate 12" - 18" of snow north and west of Boston.

Corvette remains in winter storage. All sharp objects have been removed from my immediate work area. Medication continues to be administered.

At least they chose a vette with a great sounding exhaust. Mine stay in heated storage until the snow melts, sometime in April or May. Did take the 08 out for a corvette function right after Thanksgiving, driving on ice and snow pack road from the garage to the paved highway and it performed great. Would not have taken it if the next day's forecast was not for warmer weather. Washed it and stored it on Monday. Tuesday it snowed and was cold. I have to wait for Patrick to reassure me (as he does each winter after I post a response to Remo's annual driving in the snow thread) that the snow will indeed melt. With Obamacare still lerking in the horizon, Remo may be cut off from his meds as the public option will not fund them and the Obamacare people surely will make the insurance companies charge a huge premium for corvette drivers that have withdrawl pains in the winter. CACers may have to contribute to a fund administered by Patrick to purchase the meds.

wouldn't because it's dumb to drive any RWD in the snow. having to is one thing but the z06 isn't my daily driver so I don't have to.

That's what my girlfriend asked me and I didn't have an answer for her, either.

Would I drive my C5 in the snow? I don't know, I don't think it really snows here. But if it does snow, I have my Scion for snow driving.
